To all non-(software) pirates

This is where you can discuss your homework, family, just about anything, make strange sounds and otherwise discuss things which are really not related to the Lancer-series. Yes that means you can discuss other games.

To all non-(software) pirates

I salute you!

I am at a "geek school" and as far as I know, I am the only one here who pirates neither music, nor movis, nor software (games or apps). It makes me sad, really, since many of these people will be producers of software themselves, and would probably be furious if they found people pirating their product.

Most boards I frequent have rampant piracy, from full-fledged warez to the "innocent" music downloading, and it's refreshing to see people here who take a personal stand against piracy themselves.

To those of you who do use warez, I have this to say. Shame on you. Do you somehow think that because you are sooo special that you deserve to own something you cannot afford? I suppose you deserve to own that Dodge Viper or BMW Z4 even though you can't afford those either. Why don't you just go and steal one of them too? Think about that next time before you click "transfer" in Kazaa.

I think there's a subtle difference between stealing material property (a car) and music and such that could be recorded with any VCR, tape deck or CD writer set up in the correct way from television or radio. I suppose you also know that the developers of software see very little of what money is made from sales - and that most of this goes to the publishers in typical cases.

Of course, if you don't do it then good for you - but considering the way earnings are dispersed throughout the entertainment industry, I don't think many "normal" people are so rightous when it comes to a few hours/day/weeks entertainment.

Not that I'm sticking up for piracy, but you don't seem to have viewed every position of this arguement - and thats why I've bothered posting at all

Oh, I know that the devs/artists/directors etc. get only a small cut of the profits, but my position is based on principle, not economics. However, what is the difference between "stealing" and "pirating"? Either way, you are posessing something which you have no right to posess, and the rightful owner of the property takes a loss. The only real difference is that "pirates" don't get caught, which is why it's so popular.

I agree with you DataDroid I dont copy anything, I have a CD RW which I never use, (My Dad bought it, I "borrowed" it ) I admit that I did use napster a bit when it first came out but not a lot and stopped after a short period of time.

The fact that the Devs/Artisits/Developers etc. dont get all that much of the money is infact a reason NOT to copy the material, and not an argument to do so. In fact its like someone showed up and stole cash out of your paycheck, its what some people do for a living and they might need that income. So in a way its worse that stealing a Viper or a BMW.

ok im done

That's funny NJS, Hollywood and the Musics industry had it coming. Maybe they will now lower the price of their products and stop abusing the consumer. This will also put a stop to some of the extravagent lifestyles of famous musicians and Hollywood actors. Their are no tears hear.

I came. I saw. I conquered. And sometimes get conquered.

I do download some Mp3s, but these are songs that avalbe on CDs that I wouldn't buy causethey only have 1 or 2 songs that I like and about 10 that I don't. When I download them I make my own Compulation CDs for my own personal use, it nothing to do with not being able to afford the CDs, it's just that I don't won't to waste money on a CD that I would buy for 1 or 2 songs.

Shame on me! I got a Rio CD -Mp3 player!

Ok, The prices on CDs are nearly equal to DVDs, that's just stupid! Hope they lower them.
