As you post you move up. For every so many posts you move up. But the higher rank you attain, the number of posts to attain a higher rank becomes greater. For example, from recruit to 2nd Lt. only requires 4 posts. But to attain 1st Lt., you have to post 10 or 15 posts more. It requires alot of posting to attain a really high rank. Be warned though, when you post be thoughtful with something real to say. Posting trash or emoticons just to attain rank gains you no more respect.

5-25 2nd Lieutenant
25-50 1st Lieutenant
50-80 Flight Lieutenant
80-115 Captain
115-160 Flight Captain
160-225 Lt. Commander
225-300 Commander
300-400 Flight Commander
400-500 Sqdr. Commander
500-650 Major
650-800 Lt. Colonel
800-900 Colonel
900-1400 Commodore
1400-2500 Port Commodore
2500-4000 Rear Admiral
4000-6000 Vice Admiral
6000- Fleet Admiral

You don't, if Bargib needs a moderator and thinks you'll do a good job he'll ask you. But don't get your hopes up, in the two years Ive been here only Boscoe has gone from being one of the great unwashed to moderator.
