Privateer/RF question

I posted a reply to the Priv vs FL thread but nobody responded, so I'll ask again here. Were there any benefits to befriending the kilrathi? I destoryed enough confed/miltia to have them like me and would say (more or less) friendly things when I would comm them. DId anyone else do this and find any benefits?

You don't need to blast milita/confed to make them like you. you just have to say the friendly thing int he comms enough and they will go blue. you have to do it to a lot of different ships to make it permanent. same goes for the pirates. the only benifit is that they don't attack you.
