Labtop.. What to buy?

This is where you can discuss your homework, family, just about anything, make strange sounds and otherwise discuss things which are really not related to the Lancer-series. Yes that means you can discuss other games.

Labtop.. What to buy?

I'm an engineering student, and I desperatly need a laptop. But the amount alone of possibilitys is puzzling.

I really like Apple for their cool looks, but their powerbooks are so expensive.
Dell has some pretty standart solutions and a relativly cheap.
What do you guy's have anf what do you use 'em for?

I think I could manage with a P1000 but I'm not sure.

Dunno, always been a fan of Toshibas. Got one through work for school and its been great. Pretty cheap too now in the 1 Ghz range.

In general though, I'd go for the PCs not Macs. You'll get more versitility out of them and easier to connect/play/tinker with.

Depend on your specific needs at school. For the price though you can usually get more out of a PC.

Dells have been really good to a lot of friends though, so I don't mock them. Gateway too.

I recently got this model from Best Buy, and at $1500 with a $150 rebate (so ultimately $1350), it was a stinking good deal.

Now apparently it's priced at $999, which is just insane. Unfortunately they don't seem to have any in stock anymore. But you might check your local Best Buy(s) just in case. It's an absolutely fantastic notebook: less than 1.2" thick, less than 6 lbs., 1.8Ghz P4-M, Mobility Radeon 7500 (which can run UT2003 with max detail settings smoothly!), built-in wi-fi, and it's about the closest looking thing there is to a PC PowerBook. It's also got built-in s-video out, which is totally cool. I was using ePSXe, a recent Playstation emulator, to play Wipeout XL on my 32" WEGA at hi-res!

Thanks.. I guess it's a personal choice... Apple is out, so perhaps I'll just paint the Apple logo on the front

I'll go bargainhunting now...
