I have become an ATI Radeon Whore...

This is where you can discuss your homework, family, just about anything, make strange sounds and otherwise discuss things which are really not related to the Lancer-series. Yes that means you can discuss other games.

I have become an ATI Radeon Whore...

Five years(1998) ago I bought a 3dfx card to play a game called Quake 2 in all its beauty. I loved it. Two years later I bought a Nvidia TNT2 card to enjoy Thief in all its dark and stealth beauty. One year later(2001), I bought a GeForce 2 to enjoy Deus Ex with its story and heavily modified Unreal engine. One year later(2002) I bought a Geforce 3 Ti500 to enjoy Return to Castle Wolfenstein and Morrowind for the incredible engines and framerates. Today I bought a Radeon 9700 Pro to enjoy FL and Unreal 2 for framerates and beauty(I can now engage AA to kill the jaggies). I must admit though I feel like a traitor to Nvidia for having bought a Radeon. Almost like a framerate and anti-jaggie whore. What do you guys think.

I came. I saw. I conquered. And sometimes get conquered.

What do i think?

I think ATI is kicking Nvidia's ass.

Yeah they are, but ATI has yet to make a card that doubles as a leaf blower. ATI has come a long way. I remember when I first bought my 8500, i was so pissed cause the driver's sucked. Now they are much better and freelancer looks oh so pretty on it.

Yup, no problems here. You're allegiance need only be with the company that turns out the best product, otherwise you're being irrational.

I find it pretty incredible that my Mobility Radeon 7500 will run Unreal Tournament 2003 at 1024x768 with max detail settings (not AA, though) at a smooth framerate. And it's only got 32MB of RAM!

You heathens, my hair has never been so full of life since I've been using my Nvidia to dry it. I'd like to see ATi get that sort of volume and bounce.

The 9700 Pro is incredible.. I ran FL yesterday in 1280x1024 with all details and Full antialiasing and Anisotropic-filtering

I went from a 3dfx Voodoo3, to the first Radeon 64DDR, to a Geforce2 Ti and a Geforce4 Ti4200, but if I had to upgrade now, I would definately go for a Radeon.
Few months ago I bought the GF4 because the Radeon was brandnew and had to many issues and problems.
But I dont think it is a lot of performance lost with only a 1.4GHz CPU (bottleneck).

Heh,Had my voodoo 5 from the day it came out until mid-december of last year.Played all games beautifully except in games where games supported T & L.Got myself a Radeon 9500 pro & everything looks way better intterms of anti-aliasing,Higher poly models, color saturation due to Hardware Colorfill.

i don't know much about ATI cards, what is a good midrange card, comparible to the GeForce 4 Ti 4200?

Post Sun Feb 16, 2003 6:20 pm

Canada Forever. ATI is a Canadian company, soon it will dominate the market and those Canadian-Haters in USA shall suffer our beaver-breath... I mean wrath .

Seriously, I think ATI is getting better (btw, it's twice as older as Nvidia) and making card from 100 to 400+ Canadian $. My first card was an ATI Rage II. Even if now I have a Hercules Geforce 2 GTS in my comp (btw, now I see why Hercules switched to Radeons instead of Geforces)...

Now the question: how well does ATI cards support games? IIRC EA was paid by Nvidia to make games like Battlefield 1942 Nvidia card only and many games have problems with Radeons. Is it true?

Godlike Entity, the Radeon 9000 or 9500 are comparable to the GeForce 4. Some true enthusiasts are waiting around for the GeForceFX which some say will outperform the Radeon 9700 Pro. Problem is that the beta benchmarks show the FX to not be much better the Radeon. Also the FX requires an open slot beside the video card due to its huge cooling configuration. Only time will tell. I was not willing to wait around for the FX. I hope that Nvidia doesn't go the way of 3dfx by delays and trying to do everything by themselves.

Actually, unless you preordered the card with the big hairdryer on it, you can't get one. They decided to scrap that model, and wait to release the "refresh" chipset. That is, a slightly more powerful version based on the same architecture.

probably the 9000 or 9500. Probably the 9500.

Bhurak, can you provide a couple of links concerning the scrapping of the original FX configuration. I consider myself to be an informed enthusiast but I sometimes miss things.
