Will Freelancer be like Allegiance???
This is where you can discuss your homework, family, just about anything, make strange sounds and otherwise discuss things which are really not related to the Lancer-series. Yes that means you can discuss other games.

@Whopee
You should try it!
As I pointed out it is totally different to FL. But it has its own merrits - and especially Dogfighting and Teamplay + complexity make for a long-lasting game-experience.
I know the install and getting it to run for the first time is a bit tedious... but its worth it.
That is due to the massive upgrades Patches and new factions the Game got over the years. The community is very active (creating new factions, Patches etc.).
1. Download the allready patched version (important for it inludes the connection to the new Auto-Update and Lobby) - after that the Auto-Update will update to the newest Version.
2. Download and install the little SOV-Login program and create an account with your Pilots callsign/ID (this was developped after M$ shut down their official servers - the program serves to keep people from spamming/flaming/constantly changing names etc.)
3. start SOV-Login it will ask for your password and automaticly launch Allegiance, connecting you to the lobby (there you can chose a server)
The community will be helpfull to you - tell them that you just started - they will give advice!
The links:
1. http://www.allegiancehq.org/portal/portal_content.asp
- there you will find all kinds of infos further links and downloads + the "official" forum and guides of all kind
2. http://www.alleg.net/
there you will find the download and help getting started!
3. http://www.german-borg.de/
the homepage of my squad, you will find usefull infos, reviews, guides, a forum where people will and can help you getting started (the page is in Englisch, the forum Englisch and German the squad (clan) is international by now (Euro/US/Canadian).
@the unfriendly remarkers
please feel free to verify you opinions! And please dont give devastating judgement on something you have not - or not recently experienced!
We are all FL fans (and eagerly waiting for FL for years! - I was actually waiting for FL when Allegiance came up three years ago - as were many of the other Allegiance players)

Very interesting game. Strange it's only 33mb.
Anyway, I would be glad to try the game but I doubt I could play on Dial Up.

IMPORTANT UPDATE!
Currently, there's a problem with AAS: you can create an account, but you cannot login to AAS with it after creation , therefore you cannot "enable it", therefore you cannot get into the lobby.
What to do?
Create your account at auth.alleg.net as above - then private message Thalgor at Allegiance HQ. Give him your account info, and he'll enable your account for you ASAP
As seen on http://www.alleg.net/login.html
@Wopee
Email Thalgor or post in the HQ Forum!
The admins will help!
(I hate that setup trouble too - but its worth it!)
edit
Hi Whopee - saw you in Alleg today - tryed to talk to you (couldnt get a response)
I hope you were not overwhelmed by to many unknowns (the learning curb is kind of steep in the beginning...)
1. I strongly recommend playing the offline Tutorial first
2. there are really good guides/walkthroughs posted on the sites I posted above read them! They help a lot
3. I got dropped by the server or whatever ... so no more Alleg for me tonight
(I really hope the FL server will be more stable and in a place with a good connection)
4. Use the chat mode to ask people they will help! (press Return tipe your message and press Return again, use Tab to select team/sector/all etc)
You can also hit F6 and click on a person in the list ...
