Will Freelancer be like Allegiance???

This is where you can discuss your homework, family, just about anything, make strange sounds and otherwise discuss things which are really not related to the Lancer-series. Yes that means you can discuss other games.

Will Freelancer be like Allegiance???

Im looking forward to freelancer. I loved Freespace 2 and the Wing Commanders. I was gonna get Allegiance, but i didn't want topay 10 bucks a month. I played Allegianc'es Training Mission demos and i wanted to know if the two titles would be similar?

Not sure about the gameplay pertaining to Allegiance but Freelancer is primarily a single player game with multiplayer added.Allegiance was just Multiplayer only,which is why you'd have to pay & no you wouldn't have to pay for the multiplayer afaik pertaining to Freelancer

In Freelancer's multiplayer, you get the whole Sirius System to urself. It's filled with planets, nebulas, asteroid fields, space stations, hidden goodies, etc. And you are set loose in the middle of the entire system, Planet Manhatten in Liberty. You can trade, bounty hunt, mine, etc....all independently or in groups. Its up to you.

Hmmm. Despite both being space sims (more or less) I wouldn't say Freelancer will be like Allegiance. With all the talk of "Freelancer is like..." it seems to me that the only way to classify Freelancer is... It's Freelancer. It will be genre defining, I think. It doesn't really fit in one specific genre.

whoopie,

for your information Allegiance is still alive and kicking, and more importantly free, and is now fully supported by the community rather than M$. find more details of how to update the Alleg programme and play on the communities servers here:

http://www.allegiancehq.org

that goes out to all those others who cant wait for March 6th as well.... best multiplayer game set in space by miles.

Freelancer is not like Allegiance!

I have been playing Allegiance for three years now ... (multiplayer only, good flight model, great teamplay, sufficient complexity, Joystick control etc... and it really is free now! can be downloaded at Alleg.Net or you will find Links at Allegiance HQ)

However it is so different to FL that you can't compare these games. It has no persistent universe, no trading, you don't "own" your ship (You fly what your team can afford, and depend on the resources your team gets from mining and on the tech-development that the commander (human player) will choose)

There is no single player option (except for training missions) and the games last between 30 Minutes and 4hours (depending of the quality of the participating teams/ pilots and very often on the skills of the commanders (who actually get to play the game as a realtime-strategie game ordering "real" pilots around, building bases researching tech etc.)

For me there is no competion between the two games - they are coplementary!
(And both definitely worth playing for any spacefreak )
1. FL - the nice story, trading, nice graphics and atmo, the exploring getting new ships, mousecontrol etc. - and independent of yot internetconection! We all know the other pros of FL

2. Allegiance - teamplay (up to more than 30 pilots per team!), tactics, great Dogfighting (with diffrent types of fighters/interceptors/scouts) using your joystick, multicrewing (bombers with 1 pilot 2 Turretgunners and capships with up to 4 turretgunners), "real" missions from your comander like scouting (searching unknown sectors putting probes out), repairing other ships and bases("naniting" with a special repairgun/tool in your scout), rescuing pilots of your team who have been shot down (i.e. picking up their life(eject)-pods), guarding your teams miners, hunting the enemys miners (best done in special stealth fighters if your team has them), escorting a bomberrun (often 1 Bomber 3-5 repairscouts and Fighter escorts), defending sectors/ bases etc. ...

@Whoopie
if you have only played the practice missions you really haven't seen Alleg yet! (You will need to download the newest version of Alleg though as the M$ servers are of)

I guess everyone who played WC, Starlancer, Privateer and is into space-sims can have a good time with Alleg while waiting for FL (and he can keep his joystick from gathering dust)

@agricola
Are you LWMS_agricola? The squadmatch vs. us (G was nice ...

Well If so much can be done in this Allegence game (which i never played, but am definitely interested now) and we know te amount that can be done in FL, imagine if they were merged into one game. THEN u'd truley have a liveing breathing universe, and have complete freedom.

That would so very cool.

Allegiance itself was a great game, however some of the people playing it tended to ruin the experience

Post Sat Feb 08, 2003 5:41 am

I just downloaded allegiance, but its giving me a lot of trouble. Is it worth it to continue or should i just drop it?

Post Sat Feb 08, 2003 5:59 am
