there is black space, you should watch some of the vids but the space is colored in nebulas etc. in the vids (TLR 2) they show the overall map from that you should be able to see what is colored and what is not

Most everything has color. Blank space may be lonely, but it's dreadfully boring.

@FF yep! I'm afraid so! no athmosphere -> no blue sky even at two miles from the sun. It just wouldn't be right to fly through some technicolour nebula all the time. If there was that much stuff in space that could be lit up by suns, then nobody would be wondering about that 'dark matter' they need to make *lookup...edit* that Omega parameter for cosmological expansion work out right.

The movie does look as if there was a lot of that nebula stuff!

It's not the dark matter that causes the accelrated expansion of the universe, it's negative energy

Dark matter is a way to account for the missing mass of the universe. However, since astronomers discovered that the universe is expanding rather then contracting or at steady state (done by studing class 1 supernova's) they have begun looking for the cause of said expansion. Best they can do now in theorise about "dark energy" or "negative energy", particals that only exist for very short durations in normal space, but the interaction of so meny particals is causing the expansion.

Also means that in the very distant future, the night sky, and indeed space will be very black, since there will be very few light sources other then our own galaxy. But i degress The milky way and andromeda are heading in a collision course. No Worries mate.

I've seen things you people wouldn't believe. Attack ships on fire off the shoulder of Orion. I watched C-beams glitter in the darkness at Tan Hauser Gate. All those moments will be lost in time like tears in rain. Time to die.

The expanding vs. contracting universe debate is interesting but on a personal level I don't worry about it too much. I think it's safe to assume the universe will be just fine for my lifetime.
