The Orange Box...
This is where you can discuss your homework, family, just about anything, make strange sounds and otherwise discuss things which are really not related to the Lancer-series. Yes that means you can discuss other games.

Alright people, a simple question; has anyone played the games in the "Orange Box" yet, in particular "Portal"? I am interested in people's opinions of the compilation, as it has been receiving very positive reviews. Well? Have ye?
I haven't actually gotten the Orange Box myself (I have no computer that could run them). However, i did have the privelege to play Portal on a friend's steam account while at Uni.
Soooo.... Portal.....
Portal... Is... BRILLIANT
No, Portal Isn't brilliant. Portal is so far Beyond brilliant it's outside this solar system.
Apart from the obvious mucking around with the fabric of reality with the portal gun, the game is everything that Half-Life one was: Atmospheric, groundbreaking, imaginative and all-around great.
Once you wrap your head around the portal gun, the game is so much fun, you will want to play it over again, and AGAIN. It even has the same dark humour that Half-Life one had, in addition to knowing absolutely nothing about who you're playing.
Apart from the short singleplayer storyline (Which is made up for in replayability), the game is otherwise perfect. The storyline is great, the NPC(s) are brilliantly written (Not to mention mind-bendingly scary), the levels are honestly stunning, there is honestly nothing i can critisize about this game.
And once you play through the game, you'll wish you had the portal gun in so many other games. Especially the original mario bros (This will make sense when you play through. Especially the second half).
The only thing the game lacks is cake. OR DOES IT?

*Shakes head* It's all about the delivery! The Old Man knows how it is done (sometimes), but you... Well, maybe you just need more practice. Besides, I'm running the Source-based games quite well (it could be better though) on maximum detail at 1280x960 on my 7600GS. Why that particular card you ask? The 7600GS was the cheapest alternative to my Radeon 9700 (he died months ago), and I needed something to fill in until Typhon II came along. *Sigh* My old Radeon was such a good card...

Meh! The ATI 9x's and Nvidia 5x's just aren't capable of even recommended specs anymore, I had to get an Nvidia 6800 GTS to cover the stopgap too. Though I'm more likely to buy a PS3 than upgrade Crash again.
Anyway back on topic, I've honestly had it with Valve (and id Software for that matter). I'm so bored with FPS games....they're just sh*t and this looks like HL1 with a portal gun instead of a gravity gun being the focal point....a game based around a gun.......sounds craptacular.
In fact i've spent more time playing pre-2000 games this year than anything new...I think I might be turning into a tired old coot who reminices about the good old days when games came in big cardboard boxes, manuals took you a week to read and 5 meg patches took 2 hours to download. Is anyone else getting like this or is it just me......christ I even bought WC3 on ebay the other day cause my PS1 died about a year ago.
/end tired old coot rant

Meh, all I really care about is Ep2. I already have HL2 and Ep1, and don't really have an interest in Portal or TF2. Besides, I do have a friend who bought the OB who wouldn't mind letting me on his Steam account to play.
Edit: Mustang took my "meh." He posted while I was typing this. EVIL!

Yahtzee on the Orange Box
Anyway, sadly, I'm going to have to sit and sulk in my hole seeing as the only computer I current own that works can't even run Deus Ex at 10fps (though SimCity 4 works fine - eh?). If I install a Source game I fully expect smoke to start billowing out of the side. Not to mention I don't have access to the internet. I have to walk to the library to check my mail! The indignity!
Ehhh, I guess I'll sort my main computer out during the Christmas holidays.

Get the Orange Box, it's the best.
If you haven't played Half Life 2, well it's all in there.
All the games alone cost 20-30 dollars alone, so your saving money getting the orange box in the long run.
Team Fortress is maybe the best shooter out there, which will keep you playing for hours on end. GET IT!

The Orange Box is the best deal ever. Half-Life 2, Episode 1 AND 2, Portal, and Team Fortress 2. For 50 bucks here in the U.S., you really can't do much better than that. Episode 2 is awesome, but Portal is just as fun, if not more so. I think the real fun of portal is going to be when people start making their own puzzles. Then it's really going to get wild.
