Australia, The time that electronics (and rain) forgot.

This is where you can discuss your homework, family, just about anything, make strange sounds and otherwise discuss things which are really not related to the Lancer-series. Yes that means you can discuss other games.

Yeah, those are my parents. i think you did speak to my dad before, when we were conspiring to defraud the Tax man on a rather nice Pentium.

i do think Aviation is cool, and Brunel even have a flight Sim, and the pilots skills course means that (should i pass) i get a PPL after my first year. a PPL will be handy (perhaps)

i really don't think the weather in Aus is good though? i like places where the weather is cold and wet, often snowy.

places where i can go and do a good bit of freshwater bass fishing. Canadas at the top of the list really.

what I want to do is take my Masters in Eng at Brunel, get accretited (Chartered Engineer = woo-hoo) then move to canada or finland, get a good job with good pay, buy a nice set of luuuverly Guns and find a hawt woman to bang twice a day. (5 times on weekends and bank holidays)

Questions about Australia, eh? Well what would you like to know? Would you prefer an opinion about the country in question, or simply answers to your queries?

Post Sun Sep 16, 2007 5:23 pm

Ah, Esquilax. nice to see you. i was wondering when Taw would let you out of your cage to use the internet.

as you may see, my queries have been answered, so your opinion of the country would be the most usefull

Anyway, what computer ARE you using these days?

Post Sun Sep 16, 2007 11:47 pm

Oh yes, I'm still around. The reason I didn't respond earlier was because I was playing "Fallout 2" and trying to finish it off for a second time. As for my PC, it's still the same one. The plan is to upgrade at the end of the year, and money is no object!

As for Australia... let's just say that I would seriously reconsider a move here. While the country has its benefits, it is also plagued by high taxes, expensive housing and rental prices, a challenging job market and a lack of water. This is not to mention the various pieces of legislation that continue to be passed that increasingly affect a person's privacy and security. Aside from that, a lack of literacy is also an issue, but that's surprisingly common these days. Can I clarify or elaborate on anything for you?

Good idea with the upgrade esq. Everyone's switching to 45nm fabrication at the end of the year, so...
oh, on a similar note... GEFORCE 9 GETTING RELEASED IN NOVEMBER!

Not that we'll get it here anytime near the release date...

Esquilax, what sort of house would 830,000 AUD buy?

Post Mon Sep 17, 2007 9:06 am

"money is no object!"

I must inform you that most shops don't accept carrots or GB bottle tops as currency.

Depends what city your looking at moving too AOD, if your looking at Sydney, an average 3-4 bedroom place in an average area. Melbourne, a nice 3-4 bedroom place in average-nice area. Adelaide, Brisbane, a plush residence in a kick-a area. Perth, well perth's market is all over the shop at the moment, so I couldn't really give you a definitive answer there.

Housing? Well, you could pick up a very nice apartment/flat for $800,000, but a house? Expensive they is. For example, the houses around my area have been going for around 1.2 million AUD (even the awful ones). The area is nice, but the houses are outrageously over-priced, and this is common for anything close to the CBD. Hence, you could pick up something decent, but not exceptional, around Melbourne. I'd advise checking www.domain.com.au, and seeing what ye can find.

Taw - I am aware of that. Let's just say that I keep my costs low and my income (relatively) high .

GeForce 9? But GeForce 8 only came out this year. Looks like nVidia are really kicking ATI when they're down.

Post Tue Sep 18, 2007 5:20 am

GeForce 9 is coming out because the new DX10 games already bog down GeForce 8 Ultras.

@AOD

Staying in Britain to finish your education isn's such a bad choice but if your parents are going to be paying for it, your "right" to remain is a rather less well supported argument.

If your mind is set to do this, obviously, you have to put together an argument that does two things:

1) Persuade them of the compelling nature of the argument for you to do this.

2) Prove to them by your argument that you are up to it in all ways, emotionally ... especially.

but if he had to, AoD wouldn't necessarily be bound to his folks stumping up, he could get a student loan off his bat and pay for it himself that way. Admittedly starting your life 20K in debt isn't a particularly pleasant thing, but it does allow him to stand on his own two feet and cut ma'n'pa out of the equation.

My folks stumped up the grand total of 36p* towards my education, it was the cost of the bus fare to the town centre from where I could catch a coach. Gits still wanted to gloat over their neighbours with the photos from my graduation ceremony, I thanked them in like kind by not going!

* I'm lying of course - they bought me a 12p cup of coffee in the refectory once.

my parents wouldn't stop me from studying in the UK, but they'd be upset. i was mainly asking about feasibility for their move, not mine.

Pete, its gonna be about 20 grand on my loans anyway when i finish, because of topup fees and accomodation.

<edit>

And for the last time, its Aod!, not AoD, not AOD, not aoD...

hu ho we got sw impersinating Aod.

Post Tue Sep 18, 2007 6:25 pm

No, it is "AoD", for your name was "Angel of Darkness" for a while if memory serves me correctly. Hence, A...o...D. Sheesh, I have to tell him how to spell his own moniker! No wonder he needs Taw's help .

As for the GeForce 9 series, Indy is correct, but the accompanyting issue is not only the overhead required by DX10, but the platform on which it is based (i.e. Vista for you slower types). The OS still performs poorly, and will this be mitigated by faster GPU hardware? Somewhat, but not completely.
