I use a Draytek Vigor 2700G and it's the best router I've ever used, even better than my fondly-remembered but long lost Linksys BFSR11. I toyed with a Netgear DG834GT once and hated it, it was like having a lesson with "my first router" - very few management and reporting functions, and flakier than a Cadbury's Flake in a Force 10.
My Draytek is fookin' fantastic though, bit pricier than your normal home router but worth the extra. No-one ever regrets paying more for quality (But I didn't actually pay for it, we got it as an work experiment then it just sort of ended up at my house, ongoing testing etc...)
My dsl provision is far from satisfactory though, I (ostensibly) pay for 16mb aDSL2+ but in reality I'm lucky if it ever gets over 8, 13.4 is about the best it ever got. Bear in mind that you have to divide that by 8 to get your real download speeds for file-sharing porpoises, and it sstarts to look not very good indeed. I must be hitting the full contention ratio in the evenings because it slows to a crawl. it's so bad that we don't actually pay for it anymore, just ring up the ISP and moan until they give in. But I went through all this before with cable, so I think we'll be changing soon. BT aren't any use even though we could get it free off them too, so it's high time that I stumped up for a proper ISP service like Nildram rather than mams n dads family ISP for under a tenner.
Mrs Taw actually suggested AO-helL the other day and it took me 10 minutes to stop laughing. AO-helL indeed....
..roll on fibre like they have in Japan and other civilised countries!
