Who still uses old stuff like this?

This is where you can discuss your homework, family, just about anything, make strange sounds and otherwise discuss things which are really not related to the Lancer-series. Yes that means you can discuss other games.

*Calls from shadows* Lies! All lies! I am using a "Microsoft Multimedia Keyboard" (that I don't care for that much), and a Razer Deathadder. That's right. No doubt, Taw will now make some comment about the Deathadder's on-board RAM and processing exceeding Typhon's... I'm on to you!

Oh, and while we're on the subject, can anyone recommend a decent (i.e. not a $2 piece of junk) rubber mouse mat? I have a lot of dust to contend with (the Burrow you know), which makes my desk and other solid mats problematic to use.

There are some here, that are a washable rubber, that seem to last a long time in terms of wear, though I am not sure they are available in the land down under.

Can't say anything about the keyboard or mouse (I just got a new pair with the new computer, although there are PROBABLY about sixteen ball mice in the shed out the back...)

Although I DO have that mousepad...

That . . Is old.

Post Fri Aug 10, 2007 9:40 pm

Ahh... Taw. Beat me to it. I've still got one of those keyboards kicking around.

Post Fri Aug 10, 2007 10:08 pm

Never used one of those keyboards. Tried it once, back to the store in about fifteen minutes. I use both a wireless mouse and wireless keyboard. Although, the keyboard punked out on me a while ago, I just got another one. (Yes, now I have two different receivers sitting on my desk. )

Main problem I had with corded mice is the fact that my "computer desk" isn't really a computer desk. I don't really know what it is, I'm assuming some type of work table. It's rather large, having a shelf in the top left corner that extends down most of the length of the desk and rises about three or four inches off the surface. This is what my big monitor (not big screen wise, only 19'' I think, but it's got a lot of mass to it and is heavy as hell) sits on. The surface of my desk is simply too big for most mouse cords, which would usually result in me knocking over a speaker or something if I ****ed the mouse too much during a game.

The mouse I'm using now, a MICRO Innovations I got for Christmas about thee or four years ago, is still working perfectly and has yet to give me any real problems (nothing some new batteries or a quick blow out with the air compressor didn't fix.) My keyboard is just a standard Micro$oft wireless keyboard that came with a smaller mouse that I don't use at all. (It's my backup. It isn't a bad mouse or anything, I just like the one I use now a lot better.) Keyboard doesn't bother me either, mainly because I don't use it for gaming, that's what I bought a FANG Gamepad for and a joypad (you know, looks and works just like a PS2 controller except you plug it into your computer). Joypad goes for games like PoP and GTA, while the FANG handles pretty much everything else, from Far Cry, Oblivion and HL2 to WoW and SC.

But wow, I haven't seen ancient tech like that being used in a long time. I'm to the point where I just can not use a trackerball mouse anymore. Not when my optical mouse has wonderful feet on it, almost never misreads the movement and glides across the mousepad with such incredible ease. That and the fact that I don't have to move it around all that much, because it is pretty sensitive.

EDIT: Why the hell is j3rk censored?

actually Wabbit I think your keyboard has more RAM than Typhon

urgh, I never liked those 'orrible M$ "Natural" split keyboards, I've never been able to type acceptably on them, they take up too much desk space, and just look awful. Mostly I've nothing against M$ keyboards, they're chunky, well built, sturdy and reliable, designed for larger Western hands and not those of a 4yr old Taiwanese dwarf child.

I still have bits of old kit lying around, some of which I use, mostly not, although it gradually disappears on eBuy a few dinars at a time. A Samsung Syncmaster 1000P (excellent CRT 21" RGB monitor) I use occasionally, I also tend to use older cases as they're generally better for air circulation. But as far as peripherals go, it's all quite modern, although I won't use wireless keybs, only a wireless mouse.

My server, Saruman is the exception as he's made almost entirely out of old bits, but as he doesn't do anything except storage and downloading .torrents, his venerable NX440 board and twin 1gb P-IIIs are more than sufficient for his needs. Even his hdds are still IDE, mostly because I can't be bothered to rebuild the array, and he works ok; why fix something if it isn't broken? He does have a brand spanking new 750W psu though, liberated from some heathen's computer.

I "acquired" a new monitor this morning, a HP2465, very nice it is too, lovely clear picture. Really it's for Mrs Taw as she said if I didn't get the monstrosity of a 21" huge CRT of the desk she'd smash the glass, so I had to act rather quickly. Fortunately once again no money changed hands! Once again Tawakalnistan's barter economy proves itself more flexible and adaptable the Eskwilurxitavian money based economy.
