Harry Potato & the Deathly Silence..

This is where you can discuss your homework, family, just about anything, make strange sounds and otherwise discuss things which are really not related to the Lancer-series. Yes that means you can discuss other games.

Harry Potato & the Deathly Silence..

..or maybe it should be Harry Botter & the Deadly Hype? well, at least it's given me a silent and peaceful weekend, with nary a sound from upstairs bar the occasional rustle of a turning page! So maybe it was worth my queuing up in the pouring rain at midnight on Friday to get 2 copies (for the Tawlets won't share)..

..and behold, on Saturday there was hardly a child of reading age to be seen in the land. Maybe that 'Ari Pota is magic after all?

(extra fun was provided by a small band of determined Godsquadders who were picketing our local Tesco, vainly attempting to convince weary and irritated parents that this latest book presaged the coming of the AntiChrist or some such. Somehow I don't think that a supermarket car park in the middle of the night during a torrential downpour was exactly catching most parents in a receptive mood for such nonsense?)

I haven't read the rotten thing yet, no doubt it will be tossed in my direction when discarded by offspring. I have found out what the "K" in J.K.Rowling stands for - Ka-Ching!

Anyhoo, I fancy a magical experience today so I'm off to the newsagent for 20 Chesterfields and a Fry's Turkish Delight.

You mean Harry Flotter. Yep, I agree its way over rated. Getting kids to read is one thing, but they could use something more substancial.

maybe it explains why TLR has been so quiet this weekend? all the teenies are reading their copies of Hairy Botter, and the middle-aged dads (that'd be us) are catching up on some shut-eye after queuing up outside bookstores till well after midnight!

Eh, never liked HP much. I tried reading the first book but just couldn't get into it. However, I must admit, and a bit shamefully at that, that I have enjoyed the movies quite a bit. (Haven't seen the latest one yet.)

A news item that make many ah wallet cringe.

"Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows," the seventh and final volume of J.K. Rowling's all-conquering fantasy series, sold a mountainous 8.3 million copies in its first 24 hours in the U.S.

If you figure a dollar a book profit, she makes a min of 8.3 million, not bad way to fleese folks.

never read the books...despite my gf's rather good persuasive techniques.Have seen the 1st 4 movies...gonna go see the 5th next weekend.

Things we do to keep our loved ones happy eh?

a dollar profit per unit? I would think that it's substantially more than that! most retail prices are a factor of 4 of the production costs, so for the 10 Tawakalni dinars I paid per book, it actually (roughly) would have cost about 2 & 1/2 dinars.

And I've just spent the evening sitting through the film (accompanying child) - it wasn't too bad but I can think of several things I'd rather have been doing.

Hmmmm.

My fiancée loves the books, and despises the movies, for a pure sense of entertainment, I like the movies, but refuse to read the books, as they'ree not of my making (Nor do I read Star Wars books, only comics, despite at the moment being enabled in a Great Jedi war against the Vong, acting as an ACC (Antei Combat Centre (Text based fighting)) Captain for my clan.

the only books I really read/get into, are geared towards History, I do not like fiction books, unless chronicling what-ifs.

Why I do not like the Harry Potter books? simple, too light, the fights are daft imo and the overt absence of ancient practices such as Necromancy (viewed as inherently evil by almost everyone, why I have absolutely No idea) for the purposes of magic, simply don't make a proper book for me.

Ofcourse, this series is meant for children, and to push and prong the moral difficulties of the practice of Necromancy into a children's book, not a good idea imo.

That said, Im staying away, and just resort to loving the movies

Ha ha, I am amused!

The hype has been just as bad over here, though I must admit some satisfaction in seeing the wee humans akshually reading (albeit a lower form of literature) than watching trucks turn into robots and beat the sh*t out of each other.
Never really been a fan of Harry Potter, never read the books and fell asleep watching the first film, so I'll just let everyone else enjoy it in silence and think of ways to hook up with that JK bird and lay my hands on some of that Harry Potter money.

More like Harry Potter and the Serious Business. The reactions that the hardcore HP fans give when the ED/general griefing crowd relentlessly spam spoilers is pretty darn hilarious.

Post Mon Jul 23, 2007 4:49 pm

rowling's over-rated, HP fans need to pick up something weighty like lord of the rings and hit themselves with it {evil grin}

all i can hear when i watch the movies is pockishod and mibbleswort and borogrove and a bunch of other Jabberwockyesque nonsense. feh!

Well hardcover version of the book were selling for about 23 dollars each last I saw, so if 8.3 million sold were hardcovered, she is pulling in around 190 million dollars in 24 hours. That's not counting the others she is selling afterwards and the toys, coloring books, candies, video games, etc.
Man wonder if she'll give me a loan if I asked.
