Messa Back!! Well from vacation at least...

This is where you can discuss your homework, family, just about anything, make strange sounds and otherwise discuss things which are really not related to the Lancer-series. Yes that means you can discuss other games.

Messa Back!! Well from vacation at least...

Never did one of these, but what the heck. 5 days vacation in the mountains of north Georgia, left of Helen, camping no noise, cars or anything.

Anyone else do anything interesting for thanksgiving?

Post Sun Nov 26, 2006 2:08 pm

no bird men either brian?...er fd?

Post Sun Nov 26, 2006 2:18 pm

Ooh! Ooh! Me first! Me first!

You were gone?

Post Sun Nov 26, 2006 3:34 pm

if there were no cars, how did you get there?

thank you for asking but oddly enough I didn't do anything for "Thanksgiving" - we hard working Britons don't need yet another holiday between Hallowe'en and Christmas. I'm glad you had a good time though. What exactly were you up to? just "camping" Please provide details, unless it involves shooting local wildlife (wabbits excepted because they're vermin.)

glad you're back FD didnt do anything special here, just gorged on turkey dinner and rolled around in my heap of lottery money

Went in a Motorhome/RV, towing a small car behind it, I went with my mom and her husband. It was a private campground, mainly of Rv's and Large campers. I loved the quiet, no city noises, just 3 cats that tagged along. I did get to swing over a few miles and see my dad, he's in you boat Taw, if you take my meaning, and just finished a cocktail of his own.

The mountains were nice to visit, and the trip would have been great if I hadn't had some problems with some Meds I was on, bad sleep and all.

Still, the cool mornings and nothing but clean air to breath was really nice. I am VERY tempted to pay off my bills, quit my job, and find one up there and move. Its what I need, for full healing.

Edit - 6900 what do you know

well why don't you? it's not that far from where you live, it's obv a much better place for you, you hate your current job, you'll be near your dad - what's stopping you? Oh I dare say you'll have some "reason" not to do it, there's a spidersweb that you can't reach and you couldn't bear to leave it behind, or someone has to polish the brass handles at church. pfui! it's not like you've got little albatrosses like we have (well, one little albatross) so why don't you just go and do what you want to do for a change?

what's this "in your boat" reference? your dad served on a Type 12 frigate? he's a bad-tempered anti-social computer technician with a chip on his shoulder? he's a Muslim convert who thinks Western civilisation is immoral and doomed? explain yourself! all that Waltons Mountain air has gone to your head, i think

6900? what does that mean?

if you move up to Waltons Mountain can I come and visit you?

Post Mon Nov 27, 2006 2:50 am

6900 is his Postcount.

Fd, glad to see your back, no we didn't do anything with thanksgiving, but thats more because the Dutch were glad to see the back of those pilgrims

I share your views on that mountain cabin

Post Mon Nov 27, 2006 3:03 am

oh i see! I haven't taken notice of postcounts for years, but I see FD is still up there with those veteran spammers like the Hare and the Insurance Guy I don't spam, of course.

I wonder if Waltons' Mountain air makes FD's beard grow faster? i think we should conduct an experiment to find out.

edit - I "get" it now about the "boat" reference - apologies for beinmg slow on the uptake there, as you know I'm not exactly the sharpest knife in the drawer.

@Fd,

Much as I hate to be seen public in full agreement with someone who goes about in public with head wrapped in moldy old tea-towels, I agree with, er, Taw.

Obviously, none of us here know your full situation and there likely may be some rather hefty strings attached to you that we know nothing about.

But take a couple of steps back for a minute and consider over the time that you've been active here the number of times you've shared some "if only I could" statements with us. And then, of course, separating the wheat from the chaff, consider the responses that those statements have elicited (yes including from the likes of Taw and me).

Seems lik deep down inside, you really do want to make a big change in your life and, unless you've not been straight up with us, you have the least number of "ties" that bind you to where you are and what you are doing.

So go for it Michael. Take the plunge, the only thing that may result is that the water is a bit colder than you thought .... so what. It just means a little bit more shrinkage than normal before you get back to up for air and figure out how to tread water or haul yourself up onto that nice sunny shore.

oo you have such a way with words

Hey bro You had us worried there for a while disappearing without saying anything Glad you had a good rest and some fresh air.

I have to agree with Taw and Indy. Make the move and start anew in fresh air.

We’ll be thinking of you and pray with you for an opportunity.

From us all

OOoo, and no pics either

I agree with that rabble up there, you should sit down and do some working out of figures, write down what you would like from life within a reasonable timescale.

if you don't break out of the mould/rut then you never will really. 18 months ago I sat down and worked out where i'd like to be in 3-5 years time, and looked on my previous 18 months of employment and applications for jobs to get where I wanted to be. I gathered that in 3 years I'd be in a similiar or same job, with no money, no house, no nothing and little or no prospects to get into my chosen field. I could potentially have made it in banking, but I hated it.

18 months later, after a swift round of applications to uni ni the summer, and it's turned out to be a good choice. It's costing me money (tuition fees), but only 1.2k per year. I've moved in with my parents so I don't have to rent etc, and the commute is a biatch.

However, it's going really well - I've just picked up a BCS award for "Excellence in Computing" by coming top of my year at Uni (with a ton fifty cheque to boot, which can't be sneered at ), made some sound friends and am now going to apply to places like MS, HP and IBM for my year in industry (not sure i'll stand ANY chance of getting in for any of them, but if I don't try i'll never know, and if I fail to get in - i just do my final year instead, get out a bit earlier or go on for a Masters!).

When I think back to the alternative of sitting in a bank and plodding along, hoping for a good change or chance to befall me, I am so happy i've moved on... it's been a gamble and a risk, but it's paying off so far

It's so sickenly cliched, but if you don't follow your dreams they will never happen. If your ideal is living out there in that situation, then you'll have to do something about it to acheive it, and why not start now to see whether it's possible.

I've started working on mine (please don't vomit on the choice of words), and it's the best (and biggest) decision of my life so far I think.
