OOoo, and no pics either
I agree with that rabble up there, you should sit down and do some working out of figures, write down what you would like from life within a reasonable timescale.
if you don't break out of the mould/rut then you never will really. 18 months ago I sat down and worked out where i'd like to be in 3-5 years time, and looked on my previous 18 months of employment and applications for jobs to get where I wanted to be. I gathered that in 3 years I'd be in a similiar or same job, with no money, no house, no nothing and little or no prospects to get into my chosen field. I could potentially have made it in banking, but I hated it.
18 months later, after a swift round of applications to uni ni the summer, and it's turned out to be a good choice. It's costing me money (tuition fees), but only 1.2k per year. I've moved in with my parents so I don't have to rent etc, and the commute is a biatch.
However, it's going really well - I've just picked up a BCS award for "Excellence in Computing" by coming top of my year at Uni (with a ton fifty cheque to boot, which can't be sneered at
), made some sound friends and am now going to apply to places like MS, HP and IBM for my year in industry (not sure i'll stand ANY chance of getting in for any of them, but if I don't try i'll never know, and if I fail to get in - i just do my final year instead, get out a bit earlier or go on for a Masters!).
When I think back to the alternative of sitting in a bank and plodding along, hoping for a good change or chance to befall me, I am so happy i've moved on... it's been a gamble and a risk, but it's paying off so far
It's so sickenly cliched, but if you don't follow your dreams they will never happen. If your ideal is living out there in that situation, then you'll have to do something about it to acheive it, and why not start now to see whether it's possible.
I've started working on mine (please don't vomit on the choice of words), and it's the best (and biggest) decision of my life so far I think.
