TLR RPG OOC thread

This is where you can discuss your homework, family, just about anything, make strange sounds and otherwise discuss things which are really not related to the Lancer-series. Yes that means you can discuss other games.

Character Profile (Shroud version):

Name: Maj. Robert Langford (Ret.)
Age: 53
Primary Melee: Combat Knife
Secondary Melee: Unarmed
Primary Ranged: MX-4 "Equalizer" 10mm Assault Rifle
Secondary Ranged: 7mm Semiautomatic Pistol
Appearance: 6'1, medium build, brown hair starting to grey
Bio: Joined the national armed forces as a commissioned officer at the age of 21 but left 6 years later when the army was privatised. Joined a private security firm, where his expert military training put him in good stead and he quickly advanced up the ranks. After his employers bought a controlling stake in one of the armed services providers he was deployed with other army units where he led successful military operations. As projectile weapons were phased out (after being deemed inhumane by the UN) he finally resigned, claiming he would not be as effective a commander if he was forced to use energy weapons, which he deemed unproven and ineffective. His contacts in various weapons suppliers were able to supply him with illicit firearms and ammunition as well as experimental designs.

All equipment statistics will be supplied on demand.

I too, will write in third person because it's a lot easier for me to do so.

10506 ad

don't ask how we didn't blow each other up before, the zombie virus is a result of that instinct.

Damn, talk about hard sci-fi. I imagined it to be more around 2100, seeing as 10 thousand years into the future would probably result in rather potent medical technology capable of halting such a virus. Oh well, suspension of disbelief and all that...

Post Wed Nov 22, 2006 7:48 pm

oh, i just pulled a number out of my lawyer(it's a joke) to please you.

Also the virus had swarmed the earth so many times that if we were to talk about technology we'd be about 3000 a.d. right now.

However the reason that it's incurable is because the virus actually bonds with the hosts DNA, and converts it. Then it leaves a trail of the virus everywhere it goes. In time it will assimilate the atmosphere of the planet it's currently on. The only real way to deal with it once it outbreaks is to preform a Base Delta Zero. However the military has strict orders not to if there are any life forms left.

I'll make the brief history of the virus tomorrow.

End transmission

Ok, I vote 2100 AD.

EDIT: Shroud, any updates for us or shall I just create a huge, boring monologue for my character?

Can I join in? I don't know much about role-playing though (the daughter goes rpg-ing every week, she's got one of those multi-sided dice things) I don't know how the rules work or anything but I can think up good stories. No rabbits though.

RPG newbie? Yay! *Pounce*

*Adds to Bag of Holding*

Taw, holler if you want any suggestions adapting the classic D&D classes and rules to this setting.

Character profile

Name: Dr. Edis Thorin, Ph.D.
Age: 35
Primary Melee: Utilities (e.g. Screwdriver, power drill, butane torch, etc.)
Secondary Melee: None
Primary Ranged: Prototype XL-54 'Eliminator' Tachyon Rifle (Personal design. Medium range, HIGHLY destructive, low ammunition capacity, has an internal 10-round rechargable cell, or can be powered from most power sources)
Secondary Ranged: Disposable 4-shot dart pistol (With additional dart cartridges)
Additional Equipment: Comprehensive engineering toolkit (Sci-fi version of those tool pouches electricians and repairmen have), Radiometric sensor (Like a tricorder, for lack of a better example), small geiger counter (Or equivelant radiation sensor device)
Clothing: ankle-length khaki pants with a bright red-orange shirt, worn underneath a (very) dark blue matrix-style coat. The socks (fluro green, if you wanted to know) are invisible underneath a pair of gumboots. Thorin's horrible fashion sense is immediately apparent the moment you see him
Appearance: Thorin is approximately 6'2", bald, with fair skin. He has blue-green eyes. Apart from that, he is fairly unimposing, sporting no distinctive marks or features. Occasionally, he may wear a contact lens on one eye, changing one of his iris' colour, much to the annoyance of his colleagues
Bio: Edis Thorin, born to Lana and Hark Thorin in 2065, was a very secluded child during the early years of his life. Due to an accident at the age of 6 that killed both his parents, he does not have any hair growth follicles on his scalp, rendering him permanently bald. He was raised in his aunt's home until he was 17, when he was kicked out for destroying a quarter of thier home in a science experiment. Within two months, he had become employed at a scientific engineering firm, remaining there for a further 4 years until he completed his PhD. in Theoretical Physics. Following this, he was employed in an entry level position at Megacorp Inc., working as a laboratory assistant. Within a number of months, his prowess for physics and engineering had him promoted to a leading role in their Weapons Development division, where he designed more than 30 different weapons, ranging from high-power experimental weapons, to cheap and disposable weapons. By his 35th birthday, he was intimately familiar with amost every modern weapon design known to humankind, and could build a number of improvised weapons from very common materials.
Starting Location: Unknown military base, making a personal delivery of the XL-54 to the base commander when the infection broke out. At current, he has sealed himself into the base security centre, trying to get ahold of any non-zombie personell still inside the base.

Notes: I took SOME liberties with the design, primarily Megacorp and the weapons design, and assuming that the military base i am in is the same as the colonel's (Just wanting to get into the story). Is the character okay?

Questions: Just so i know, i have a few questions about the setting and the technology - 1) Are we on earth, or some other planet? 2) how developed (if at all) is space travel and/or FTL technology? 3) what is the overall objective here? (Kill all zombies? survive? get out alive?)

I'll post my first paragraph once i get character approval from shroud

Edit- changed name and date

@^: Maybe change your name to avoid confusion?

Also, less importantly, can we go for a much earlier date, please? The eleventh millenium AD is so far in the future that just about anything will be completely unpredictable. Science fiction =/= Science Fantasy, and so will require a complete and total rethink of everything associated with my character. Though I will, of course, if necessary, but the problem could be circumvented if everyone changed a number in theirs.

Finally, perhaps we can make this the dedicated OOC thread and play the actual game in a proper, IC thread. It would smooth things out a little.

Post Sun Nov 26, 2006 7:05 am

Yes, yes that would work.

before i get stuck into creating a character (I have one in mind) I'd like to ask 2 questions please:

1. is the setting 10,000 years in the future, or 100 years? because my character won't make any sense at all 10,000 years hence (unless hardly anything has changed from today) so can i have this clarified please?
2. why are all the characters so far seem to be lifted straight out of video-games or straight-to-video B films? if that's what you want, ok, but my character isn't one of those stock special forces/engineering genius types.

Post Mon Nov 27, 2006 12:30 pm

I chose a commissioned officer because fighter builds are traditionally rather easy to make in D&D and I'm lazy when it comes to transposing the rules onto a completely different setting. He's also not special forces, he's got pretty average stats and his weapons are apparantely gimped. If Shroud insists on a 10000 AD setting then I'll rework the lot.

Post Tue Nov 28, 2006 3:57 am

Fine we'll vote on the time period!

Post Tue Nov 28, 2006 7:09 am

100 years. Everyone's character should fit in fine with that time frame.
