firstly, there's a technical forum for this sort of stuff. I appreciate that all that vile GB has probably adversely affected your vision and higher brain functions, so i thought I'd help you out with that point, Jughead.

I take it you've done the obvious like check your speakers, make sure the audio-jack's in the right output socket, made sure you haven't got the sound on mute etc. (I've been caught out by these things myself)

doubtful it's a virus, very unlikely. almost certainly drivers unless the sound hardware itself has died, which is not unknown but less likely. I suggest getting an updated driver for your sound adaptor and seeing what happens.

You might also do well to go into your BIOS and check that, if you're using onboard sound, that it's enabled.

if you have a Bluetooth adater in your PC, be careful as sometimes the addition of a Bluetooth audio device can take precedence as the primary sound adapter and hence you don't get no sound through your speakers in your games and apps. Check the device priority in control panel>sounds & audio devices>audio. Course, if there's NO audio devices listed there, then you have your answer.

if your onboard sound has died, never fear, just go out and buy a cheap PCI sound card (or an expensive one, it's your money) bung it in, install the drivers, and away you go.

I'm sure your long-eared master can rustle you up a spare 16-bit ISA card from the depths of Typhon{/i}

How about just relocating it to the right forum so that others who *know* where to look can get the benefit of it?
