descent = freelancer in tubes pretty much

whats the difference? don't get me wrong - i love descent! i would have rather played descent than quake anyday, but better than freelancer? come on! (yanking motion)

Its a matter of personal taste, really.

But of course, all these games have one thing in common - they ruined their respective genre's xD

Descent - killed 6DoF
Freespace 2 - killed space sim
Freelancer - killed freelancer-ish games.

I myself love the Freespace series, i mean come on, nothing ive played so far can beat flyin a little stealth fighter along the hull of a 6 k long Shivan Warship.

The missions were well done, the fighter were excellent and it was well balanced, u neded bombers to take out big ships.

Descent was great fun, but you can't compare it to FL, they're completely different. Comparing FL to FS is unfair too, as FL is a space-trading game with combat, like Privateer or Elite (or the X-series although the economy figures more largely in those) whereas FS is pure combat, like the Wing Commander series.

I didn;t play original Quake for over a year after it came out because I was playing Descent almost every night. Great game!
