He was lucky, if I have a 22 year old son still living at home, his little back side would be off at work, not sitting at home.

Some people just don't get it, if you are trying to shoot some-one practice in a game before hand.

Let's be fair on the parent here, he most certainly wasn't trying to kill his son so why is he being charged as such? Criminal damage at the most, surely?

Final, what would you do if said individual got a job as a playtester?

I doubt that charge will hold tbh... no-one is that an incompetant shot as to miss by 3 FEET.

Chips, he obviously had not practiced in a game.

I agree with "NuttyProSci-Fi3000", He needs to practice more.

The funny part about this whole thing, is that they say that he was charged with attempted murder and then feel the need to clarify it is the murder of his son and not the computer!

Oh boy, you know Jack Thompson's gonna get involved at some point. I can just see him now. "We must ban all violent games because they can even turn people who don't play them into psychopaths. Violent games made a good father try to kill his son because his son was playing the game." I'd be willing to bet money that that's about how Jack Thompson thinks. At least I had a good lawyer and got that lawsuit he had agains me dropped.

Can someone explain to me why it's perfectly legal to put up instructions for building an atomic bomb on the Internet, but it's a federal offence to post a way to get around copy protection on CDs?

You want to know why it is legal to put plans for an atomic bomb on the internet but not warez (not strictly what you asked but I can't be stuffed typing that out)? Two reasons come to mind, firstly intellectual property is (potentially) violated in the latter, but not the former. Secondly, there is a reasonable expectation/hope that the people who get hold of these plans don't actually have the raw materials necessary to build a bomb, but it is highly likely that someone who gains access to warez will indeed have the means to make good use of his acquisition.

J Dawg-long story, explained it a while ago, and I really don't feel like going through it again. Let's just say it had something to do with a tiny little AIM icon I put on a freewebs site I made.

Evil- thanks for ruining it for me, it was more of a rhetorical question. I suppose I shouldn't have said nukes, maybe it should have been more practical bombs that can be made at home. That's completely legal. I just would have hoped that Republicans had more important things to deal with than making it a federal offence to get around copy protection on CDs, maybe they should be focusing on national defence or the borders, or maybe that war in Iraq wich they had no buisness starting?
