Tax Time?

This is where you can discuss your homework, family, just about anything, make strange sounds and otherwise discuss things which are really not related to the Lancer-series. Yes that means you can discuss other games.

Finalday-

Congrats on your return. This'll be my first year filing. I'm waiting for a couple more statements to arrive before I begin the process.

our tax return process doesn't take place until April 1st, and this is the first year I'll be filing, since I now mostly work on an IR35 contract basis. Whilst I am due something, about £900 (roughly) I assure you that anything I get wilol be mine in name only. Mrs Taw has it already allocated to needier purposes. Like school fees, decorating, repairing the (self-inflicted) damage to her car etc.

I got a share bonus of nearly £2000 last year, that went on a new boiler. I'll never have any money

The wife and I are getting about $3300 back, yeah for the new tax return rates for Married people!!!

That is over double what i have recieved in any other year.

We are putting it toward a bedroom suite for the new house; when we get the new house; after we find a house we are happy with.

I got my taxes done and turned in yesterday. I filed my federal online for free and did my state by hand yesterday. I'm getting 670 USD back for federal and around 5-600 for state. Not a bad return, if I do say so myself. I figure, the sooner you get it done, the less you have to worry about.

Technically speaking we should all try to owe zero and get back zero.

Big tax returns shouldn't be a goal or a way to "save" money. I'd happily volunteer to hold everyone's tax money for the year and write the check for them on tax day. I could do great things with a free loan like that. Better yet, don't have any taxes taken out of your paycheck all year long and then write that tax check yourself on April 15th. That will put into perspective how much we are paying in tazes.

Okay, off the soapbox.... I just couldn't resist.

approx 37% via direct and indirect taxation, for the *average* family in the UK. I think that puts us amongst the highest in Europe.

Interestingly, as regards fuel; the actual price of fuel remained remarkably stable after the late 1970s but pump prices were continually increased in duty as a means of maximising Govt revenue at a time of rapidly increasing vehicle ownership and usage. Although in recent years fuel prices have increased at source, the bulk of the pump price remains duty. Recent Govt changes to legislation as regards alcohol purchasing and licensing are similarly aimed at increasing the flow of revenue to central Govt (as I've observed before)

Even I should be able to claim something back this year... yippee!! All those months paying tax, before leaving work to never pay tax again!*

Now I want my money back WITH interest (I bet they charge interest on money you owe them right?! right?! am i right?! i hope so ).

*until further notice.

*spits*

Income Tax

As earlier mentioned April 15 over here.

I push my filing back as late as possible as I seem to end up
owing more rather than getting anything back.

*spits again*

Got my federal return in today. Now I just have to wait for my state return to come back. Direct depositing your returns makes things go a hell of a lot faster.
