From my understanding, Olympus is good as well. Now for your choice of film. Remember to get the speed that matches the purpose. ie fast for action, slower for darker imigery(sp). It can have an effect on the quality of the shots. And most important, keep that thumb out of the shots. I had a lot in them in my first few rolls of film.

i have a nice olympus camera myself. it's got a good zoom, delay, outside flash, no flash, delay timer, clock. The standard, unfortunatley the older(aimo weireder) sibling has been known to mess up the film in it.

nice choice for a first proper camera, Tux; you can't go wrong with an Olympus 35mm compact, I still have my venerable Olympus Trip and it gets used quite often, even in this digital age.

I've always found that Agfa film stock seems to like Olympus and you get a slightly richer colour spectrum with Agfa, although Kodak does tend to be a little crisper on the image. Fuji's ok as a good general usage stock.

It makes me feel really great to see you all talk so positively about Olympus. Now all I've got to do is to learn how to use it (which will just mean spending a few practical hours with my cam) and then I'll be into the thing. I hope I can use mine for quite some time to come (although I believe I will). Just don't want it to break. I'm using Fujifilm with mine (400). Who knows what I'll be able to photograph down here?

When oneday I take some decent pics, I'll share some of them here. Hope you'll still have fun with your cameras too.

Thanx a lot!
Tuks

From my sources, you have a beautiful park near by, that will give you lots of practice as well as the coastal area of Hermanus. Enjoy shooting the world.

btw tuks, fit a uv filter on the front of your lens, it cuts out some of the haze on sunny days, but more than that it protects the lens, better to spend about £10 on a new filter than nearly £50 on a new lens, dont you think?
