Mensa test

This is where you can discuss your homework, family, just about anything, make strange sounds and otherwise discuss things which are really not related to the Lancer-series. Yes that means you can discuss other games.

Mensa test

Just thought I'd share this with you guys, it's a test from MENSA and it's fairly fun. According to the text at the top, scoring 12-18 is considered intelligent while 19+ is genius!
I'm still working on a few. I've managed 27 so far *gloats a little*
See how well you do!

Oh yea, I did this before and did quite well, but I don't think this has anythign to do with intelligence, it's simply a good vocabulary
thats my opinion in anyway

good job tho rec

edit...my score currently standing on 30

Got 31 in the end, had to look up the last two ...oh well, I'm happy with that and I learnt(learned?) something new!

Wow, I'm a genius too!

Some are a bit strange and 13 is downright obscure

Got 30, without looking any up. (After 2 hours of staring blankly at it)

30 is not THAT difficult
hehehe.

I was of the belief that tests that challenge non-linguistic pattern recognition and spatial awareness were better measures of raw *intelligence* as they don't rely on previously gained knowledge or experience? I got 24 on this in a 15 minute stint but I'm very sure that doesn't mean I'm particularly special, I just associated some common phrases with obvious given prompts. Someone whose first language isn't English wouldn't do very well, nor would someone who couldn't read, but that's no reflection on their native intelligence.

it's very similar to those quizzes where you have to type in the names of bands or tv shows, whatever; I'm rubbish at those because I don't follow much popular mass culture. But, obviously, not knowing the names of current popular bands etc is no reflection on anyone's intelligence, or lack thereof.

Well, that's debatable. I'd argue that a sound knowledge of current events in Big Brother et al indicates a somewhat lower than average intelligence, although that's probably just my cynical-bastard personality showing itself...

I've got 26 so far , and that's at 1am with half a dozen beers inside me.

Oh, I'm fairly sure it's not actually real, for exactly the reasons you stated Taw (That and the use of 'em instead of them doesn't sound like the sort of spelling you'd expect from MENSA.), but that's not really the point, it's just supposed to be a bit of fun. There are several there that are so blindingly obvious it takes very little effort to reach the "intelligent" stage anyway.

odd i only got 15 when in got about a 220 on my last iq test

Post Sun Jan 22, 2006 5:46 pm

Unless they've reworked how they calculate the IQ or the USA works it differently than the rest of us, that IQ score would make you a "Super Brain".

90 - 110 ...... Average Human
111- 139 ......Smart B*astard
140 + .......MENSA candidate

These are the IQ rateings that I know about.

All I know about MENSA is that dad turned down their offer of membership because he thought they were self-important snobs.

I've yet to get my IQ formally tested, but it's been upwards of 130 in any online test I've tried (without cross-referencing and taking on average <30 mins to finish a test). Most of that, as I understand it, is focused in the creative direction (I write).

I don't think the above is a real test anyway...pretty much for the same reasons as everyone else has given. It depends entirely on prior knowledge of not only certain systems of measurement, but heavily on Western-European culture. If MENSA is as "smart" as it claims to be, it would never rely on such culture-specific parameters to determine intelligence.

I tend to agree with Taw. The whole point of the "IQ" tests (setting their actual accuracy and usefulness aside) is to acquire a sense of a person's RAW intelligence in relation to the mean (and median) scores. Using non-linguistic questions allow the same test to be used across cultural and linguistic barriers which allows for a more accurate comparison. Indeed, as I recall on-linguistic tests were used to assess the intelligence of some of the "uncivilised" tribes in South America in an attempt to rate their level of intelligence. From what I have read here, this test does not seem to be terribly useful as a means of measuring IQ. Ah well, as long as you kids are having fun .

"That and the use of 'em instead of them doesn't sound like the sort of spelling you'd expect from MENSA.), "

that would be because the website is hosted by a private indivudual who got the test from a friend whois amember of mensa. It is actually in excell format i believe.
apparently itis real. tho i stilldon't believe that it measures IQ

Taw...my first language isn't english and I scored well.

Even with normal IQ tests not doing it in your native language is a disatvantage.

oh well..this was a nice, fun challenge

Well we now know where Stephen Hawking has disappeared to Really now Shroud...220...That's more like a cholesterol score than an IQ

Post Mon Jan 23, 2006 12:24 pm

Yeah, you want to revise that made-up figure?? Apparently anything above 130 is "Very superior" and only 2% of the population hit this figure or above...

Post Mon Jan 23, 2006 12:28 pm

Click on the FAQ link, and it states it has nothing to do with mensa, is not a mensa test, and is only fun etc.

That said, this was used at work as part of a "quiz" - this was one section, the other was on music etc. Shame I don't still have a copy of the music ones - they were ace. We got them all in the end, but when I say we - i mean 4 of us working together One of them was books in the bible from memory etc...

*having said that, having a quick go, only getting 20 before getting bored! Got oldies that i remember such as 3 blind mice (see how they run); 66 books in the bible, 19 books in the old testament - all of which i never could have got on my own! Also remembered 15 men on a dead mans chest... but although I know we completed them, and if is stared for longer I will get more, i have no patience *

*edit 2 - got another 3 as soon as i looked at the page again... after posting the link in other forums *
