The "Face on Mars"

This is where you can discuss your homework, family, just about anything, make strange sounds and otherwise discuss things which are really not related to the Lancer-series. Yes that means you can discuss other games.

The "Face on Mars"

I only learned about this age old story today, but thought I should share it with you all.

In July, 1976, Viking Orbiter 1 was acquiring images of the Cydonia region of Mars as part of the search for potential landing sites for Viking Lander 2. On 25 July, 1976, it photographed a region of buttes and mesas along the escarpment that separates heavily cratered highlands to the south from low lying, relatively crater-free, lowland plains to the north. Among the hills was one that, to the Viking investigators scrutinizing the images for likely landing sites, resembled a face....

Thats the reason in "Mission to Mars" the dome they uncover is in the shape of a face. It is a spin off on the "Face on Mars."

As for the North and South poles, that is very simple.
Poles = Ice = a chance of finding microbacterial organisms and at the very least a source of fuel for later missions. Water on other planets will be a major key to us to have manned missions through the solar system and one day colonize another planet.

oh yeh? what about the secret hangar in erm somewhere that the US Govt keeps Elvis and Jimi Hendrix in?

Post Fri Dec 09, 2005 5:07 am

@ Taw-
See MIB: K answers the question about Elvis by stating "he just went home.."
Probably the same for Mr. Hendrix. No secret hangers on a base that doesn't exist - after all, would the government actually LIE to us?

My friend got this science thing on PPV showing a bunch of REALLY messed up "coincidences" on Mars, and THAT thing totally made me a believer... you see the pics of the face, that are probably long gone now, and man, you'd friggin' see it... and the 5-sided pyramid. I friggin' can't stand conspiracy theory BS, but I am beyond convinced there is a bunch of stuff on Mars that our world governments have decided we really don't need to know.

Bunch of freaky stuff, man... pics of various features, positions, then some interesting mathematical "coincidences" about their positions... showed some new stuff that they found out to be true when tested... all about planetary fluid dynamics... freaky stuff.

@ arton alpha- most gratuitous thanks! bolshoyeh spasebaw!

Funny, innit, we've had the tech since the '60s to set up colonies at the L4, L5
points - ref. Gerard K O'Niell, NASA- and nothing was done about it, even after it was shown on paper to be a feasible concept with the colonies building power sats to pay their way. You'd think some company out there would've seen the potential for offworld mining and manufacturing- AND keeping the eco groups happy by getting such things like mining and smelting ops out where the possibility of pollution could be handled far more easily- and made the investment.SOMETHING stopped the drive- what?
