Beam me up, Scotty.........

This is where you can discuss your homework, family, just about anything, make strange sounds and otherwise discuss things which are really not related to the Lancer-series. Yes that means you can discuss other games.

Rest in Piece

'Today the guns are silent. A great tragedy has ended... we have known the bitterness of defeat and the exultation of triumph, and from both we have learned there can be no turning back. We must go forward to preserve in peace what we have won in war.' "

This is a real tragedy. The origional Star Trek movies were works of art (especially Wrath of Khan) that will be around forever. Scotty is immortal- in his appearance in the TNG episode, he was over 120 years old and still looking good. He will not be forgotten.

A tragedy??

Death at 85? Thank you, no. Death at 19...36...hell, anything younger than 50 is most certainly a tragedy. But Scotty lived a full and brilliant life! 85 is no tragedy, not by any means.

Post Sat Jul 23, 2005 7:33 am

I dont think 85 is a tragedy either......

Post Sat Jul 23, 2005 7:35 am

The tragidy is not the age, but the loss of the individual.

Indeed. I think the highlight of Doohan's career was Star Trek IV: The Voyage Home. That was one of the funniest damn movies I've ever seen. I still remember the scene with him trying to talk to the computer in the 20th century. Pure gold.

"He's a freak, ladies and gentlemen! He's a freak!"

No, my point is his death isn't a tragedy in the least.

Death is not an inherently bad thing. Impermanence is one of the basic laws of the universe--even if you believe in an afterlife, death is still undeniably inevitable. And it's neither inherently good nor bad. It simply is.

Celebrate his life. Don't mourn his death.

And considering the mental and physical state of most post-85 year olds, his life after that point may very well have been considered mournable, had he not died.

Wilde, for one so young, you have so much to learn about human nature and valueing people.

His additions to life went beyond TV and movies. As a human, he had value and purpose and added to humanities mix.

Compassion, is an emotional thing, and if left out of the equations, reduces humanity to mere data.

We can celibrate his life, but mourning his death is also needed, as he is taken from us, and we have him no more.
