Gaming just got a big drop in credibility

This is where you can discuss your homework, family, just about anything, make strange sounds and otherwise discuss things which are really not related to the Lancer-series. Yes that means you can discuss other games.

Gaming just got a big drop in credibility

A couple in S. Korea killed their baby through neglect after playing World of Warcraft for several hours at an internet cafe. It's stories like these that people latch on to the most I'm afraid; this story is already spreading across the internet, give it a few more days and it'll feature on more mainstream media sources.

yeah well, asian gamers are maniacs, we all know that.

Jeez, ff, that's generalising just a little bit don't you think? I'm sure kimk will have something to say!
S.Korea is known for having a much larger PC gamer proportion of its population, so it's no surprise that stories such as this (and the other famous story of a man gaming for 14 hours straight in an internet cafe before dying in the bathroom) stem from there.

Rec, I think ff was joking...

There is an article over at gamespot that a 15 year old Japanese boy murdered his parents and its being linked with GTA3. He then blew the house up with home made explosives. Obviously this is one of the things that GTA teaches you to make.

thats just f'in stupid

GTA3 teaches you how to make explosives!? I want me that game!

@Bret
This smacks of media hysteria. Notice it's being linked . Wasn't Manhunt being linked to the murder of a boy some time ago? Except that the judge threw out the allegations when the motive was deemed to be robbery and the hammer a weapon of opportunity.

On topic though, I was quite surprised to see you hadn't posted the story I thought you would. Here it is in NewScientist

Basically, research is showing that the brain responds to computer game violence the same as real-life violence.

I think it's a bit of a no-brainer (excuse the pun ) though. Is there any reason why we should respond to different occurances of violence in different ways? What is the real issue is whether or not the brain accepts games as unreality. Often there are attempts to blur reality and unreality, but tapping combos into your PC is clearly going to distance you somewhat.

@Rec
Nice spoof on my thread
