Web site URLs

I went thinking abit.
Does anyone know if it's possible to have a URL attached to your computers IP, in other words, to use your computer as a web server?

EDIT: What I'm saying, of course, is that i'm wondering if it's possible to have a free URL?

not for free, no. you CAN set your pc up as a website if you wanted, you'd have to be a static ip for one and have to register your URL with your ip address with a number of NIC servers around the world. then you'll need to be running some form of web-server so that browsers can interpret your computer as a server. apache is open source so you could go with that. WindowsXP professional comes with IIS 6 as well.

Yes for free yes. :p
I'm doing it. my computer is http://_.1.vg (yes, that's an underscore) although it's not on all the time.

I'm running Apache2, php5 and MySQL 4.

The DNS is a free subdomain from http://freedns.afraid.org (which is a great site)

Also, i can host CSS or another game and people can add _.1.vg server address and it will work. Easier than looking up my IP every time i want to host a game.

Edit: Oh and your IP already has a name assigned to it by your isp. Albeit a very ugly one. From a command prompt window type nslookup your.ip.address it will show you the reverse dns for your IP.
