Splinter Cell: Chaos Theory (PS2er''s slightly let down.)

This is where you can discuss your homework, family, just about anything, make strange sounds and otherwise discuss things which are really not related to the Lancer-series. Yes that means you can discuss other games.

Splinter Cell: Chaos Theory (PS2er''s slightly let down.)

Well, I had been waiting for this game for a long time, I finally got it when it came out this past Tuesday, and I was a little dissapointed. I am not at all saying that this is a bad game, no, far from it. This is a superb game, sencational graphics, non-linear objectives (That's a first for Splinter Cell.) and just the open-endedness of the levels.

When I got it, I was slightly dissapointed in the multiplayer options. I was expecting to do Spys vs Mercs and some online co-op. Sadly, the multiplayer only gives us PS2 owners the Spys vs Mercs option. Even worse, the only , I repeat, the only difference is that there are now four new maps. That's it. The only way to do co-op is split screen. The night-vision for the PS2 Online is so muddy and bla, it's practically useless. The Xbox and PC offers online co-op, but not the PS2. I am a little dissapointed, but hey, at least I'm not one of those poor Game Cube souls. They have no online what so ever, even though the GC offers connectivity.

The solo op is everything I expected, and a little more. I love the hacking option. The new Bash Door interaction is a good thought, if you just need to distract an enemy or knock him out cold. You can do inverted neck breaks, slash throats, do non-lethel choke attacks and palm to face strikes. Sam now has a shotgun attachment, because this time around, its not all 100% about stealth. Just before you start a mission you have an option of three loadouts. Stealth, Assault and Redding's Recomindation. The recomindation blends both. Stealth comes with more non-lethel weapons like gas grenades, sticky shockers and ring air foil rounds. It has some lethel alternitaves, like a sniper attachment and some rounds.

Assault on the other hand makes you feel almost like Solid Snake. It's more Rambo style. You have more bullets, the shotgun attachment, frag grenades, and some motion sencitive wall mines. No matter what you do, you will have your handy combat knife. Use it to slash throats, break some locks, bypass circut breakers and some various other uses. You also have a few new moves, such as the "Water Stealth Attack." This is where Sam is in water, like one of the tubs in the Bath House mission. Where if you are in the tub, (Obviously full of water.) and an enemy is standing next to the edge, you will get an interaction that says "Grab Character." If you preform this, then Sam will reach up, grab the enemy, pull him in the water and drown him. Another one I like is what I call the "On the Edge of Death." There are a few spots in the game where you can use this, you probably don't know wtf I'm talking about so I'll explain.

"On the Edge of Death" is probably one of my favorite moves. It has been shown in trailers, TV comercials and more. One of the most fimiliar spots to do this is at the top of the Lighthouse. Where Sam is hanging off the side of the lighthouse and an NPC walks near him. Sam gets the "Grab Character" interaction where he will climb up the rail, grab the enemy by the collar, and pull him over the edge of the lighthouse. There are a few other places you can do this, like the first mission you have in Japan, (I forget what it's called.) after you enter the common area, there are two guards talking. You can do it here, as well as some places in Seoul, South Korea.

This is one of my favorite games to date, so consider this my official review. Here is a quick breakdown of the game.

Splinter Cell: Chaos Theory

+Sencational graphics
+Non-linear objectives
+Open ended levels
+Good story
+Good AI
+Lots of cool new moves
+Great new weapons, fully customizeable SC-20K, OCP, etc.

-No online co-op for the PS2
-No online at all for GC
-The co-op graphics are about the quality of the first Splinter Cell on the PS2

This is a gaming revoulution, and if I had an Xbox, I would probably give this game a 10 out of 10. But because of the slightly dissapointing PS2 Online, I give it a 9.75 out of 10.

In other words, BUY THE FREEKIN' GAME!!

sorry, no spell check yet.

I was gonna buy it for the PC for $40, but then decided to wait and see what kind of perfomance others got on the PC.

Sounds like a good game. I will get it:

1. When I finish the first Splinter Cell. (dang Chinese soldiers! )
and
2. When the prices go down a bit, as I can't afford to buy games at $50 anymore.

And I have an XBOX, so things seem to be looking up for me from killa's perspective.

This game rocks. The ps2 probably cant handle two players and AI at the same time.

Anyway, Very happy with the PC version, running at 1280x1024 at around 45-60fps on my 9800pro with everything on max detail. I bumped it up to 1600x1200 but it did noticably slow down in some areas.
