Ah, the Clash!(long live Joe Strummer, RIP) The Jam! (Peter Weller, a genius). Brings back all those wasted, and I mean very wasted, nights at CBGB's in the Village. B-52's, Blondie, Talking Heads, Human Sexual Response, Devo, New York Dolls, all before they became "commercial". Blondie was the most awesome live band. Debbie Harry wasn't just amazingly cute, but she could sing big time. Chris Stein on lead guitar, awesome. Saw the Tubes there once. "White Punks on Dope". "We tried to hang out with some local boys, who had Ferrari's as they're favorite toys, and their music gave their life some hope, and their music was 'white punks on dope'....I was a punk before you were were a punk, I was a punk before you, you don' t believe me, just step outside and see me...."
Almost saw the Sex Pistols there, but couldn't get in. The place filled 6 hours before they came on.
Saw the Clash opening for the Who in '82 at Shea Stadium, and once at CBGB's, and once at, believe it or not, Vassar College! Probably the most preppy girls college in the US. Saw the Who about 20 times, including a few shows with Keith Moon. Grateful Dead in 77 (along with 72 their best year) 10 times.
What was this topic about......oh yeah, a bald headed guy in an English Schoolboy's outfit running around stage hitting C chords over and over again....yeah, that's music....... (sigh)
