Hiya gang

I've been feelign rather bad latley, no correction i have been feeling majorly depressed latley and every time i smile its a lie. Also the music i listen to doesnt help. Here is the kicker i dont know why i am depressed. I can tell you what triggers it though, seeing people being happy.

Everytime i see a person happy i feel as if a wieght dropped through my body and a jelousy rises up. That concept itself doesnt make me feel to happy either considering i dont want people to live joyless lives.

The thing is i live a good life. i have a nice computer a good family a good school everything around me is ideal. i may not be exzactly what i want to be but few are. but i feel terrible if i see someone happy.

My question(s) are:
Does anyone have any theories on this, or how solve it
Has anyone been through this before
And what this could possibly lead to.

Talk to people around the school, everyone's depressed--no joke, seriously. It's hormonal. And the fact that it's the end of February. I wouldn't sweat it, it happens to me all the time. I'd suggest meditation if I didn't know you hated Buddhism (though maybe Tai Chi)

Personal expereance - Depression, can be caused by a lot of things. Situations, lost love, chemical, stress. It is real and has to be delt with. Pastor, Rabbi, Teacher, anyone not connected with the situation to talk to helps. Depression, left unchecked, can lead to worse things. For you doubters, it can and does lead to suicide or suicide attempts. False help, those that through little platitudes to you, can do more harm than good. Talk to an adult, look at you life, the things that have been happening, to either isolate a cause or to elminate one. Not an easy thing to deal with.

Thanks FD, im glad to have your advice. My life is a really odd one. I guess some of it could go back to primary school and how problems there have caused problems now. Also some unresolved things with a certain man who came close to ruining my life. My problem is i cant go into a curch and talk with a priest or rabbi, and all my teachers and parents are involved... i cant think of a uninvolved person.

I guess this is why i talk on these forums, i only know wilde.

DSQrn, if this is beginning to worry you, it is time to get professional help. Depression can be treated, is often played down by laymen (which causes proper treatment to get delayed) and is a potentially fatal danger. Trust me, I know what I'm talking about. Yes, I have been through it, and still am fighting with it - I'm currently dealing with a depression that has grown since about 20 years. The sooner you get help, the better. And it's important that you get help from a professional - laymen, even if they are friends - tend to make things worse. It's a question of professional skills and the proper distance.

I had the same line of thinking - no good. Let's put it the other way around - treating a depression is something that easily takes a lot of time - that much, actually, that someone not getting paid for it in most cases can't spare the time to do it properly. And it requires real skill.

I'm not saying I wouldn't kick a therapist who rips me off. I'm saying a friend mostly lacks the competence and the resources to deal with a depression properly. And a good therapist will primarily see you as a person with problems.

And also I'm not saying you should not talk to friends about your depression - you will need both, in fact. But friends alone cannot deal with true depression - my experience.

Well, you're still lucky if there are still things that help. Do those, then.

> and the music i listen to just depresses me even more

Time to listen to something else.

It is possible, to talk to a Rabbi or paster, with out religion being involved, mearly as an outsider. But, depending on your age, professional help may have to com through your school, ie guidence counselor and there recomendation for someone higher. Don't know the size of your family, but what about a grandparent or aunt/uncle?

@DSQrn:

Sounds better. Of course you can love your music - but not every flavor of music is good to hear at any time, right?
