RYOC: Evolutions

This is where you can discuss your homework, family, just about anything, make strange sounds and otherwise discuss things which are really not related to the Lancer-series. Yes that means you can discuss other games.

RYOC: Evolutions

Not another RYOC thread, so dont flame me, i just thought id post here about a new RYOC-style game im running down at school. A bit more controlled, much much more open-ended, ive got a guy with a sun-station in this one!
If anyone is curious about how this works and wants some more ideas about whats going on in the game, post here, and ill put some more info down...

@chips: sorry, couldnt think of a better title

Maybe you should start by explaining what RYOC stands for - never heard of it.

Am I the only one who feels lost in this thread... or should I say 'has lost this thread'... or 'has been lost in this thread'...?

I am confused, or am I?

Well, at current, weve got five civilisations:

Arania - Youve all seen them, so i wont go into any firther detail
Aggraviel - Sun worshippers. live in a massive jump-capable station that eats stars. last i heard, its the size of a star system.
Drork - Genetic cross between Drow elves and orcs (We had a bit of unsightly images on how that couldve come about...). they steal technology. goa'uld, replicator, asgard, federation, ancient...
Elemental - I really dont know much about them, to be honest... im told they're like elementals from Chronicles of Riddick
Flood - I mean exactly what i say. basically halo flood with technology. just, alot more of them
Graviton - Much like the Aggraviel, but these live in a black hole station, graviton weaponry, and the like.

Basically, people create a civilisation, and simulate trade and battles with other civilisations. each civilisation has a defined border (I got a massive starmap for that, 50 parsecs in every direction), and has distinct technology. they can do pretty much anything, so long as it is possible with thier technology (Some restrictions, no military time travel for one). they can develop technology, trade resources, but everything major needs to go through me.

We had the first test of the Capital ship battle system on friday, we didnt get the chance to finish, but it was a sucess (one loss to us, a Flood 'Peanut')

@freighter: not me, actually, the drorks are the ones that are gonna jump in with the hellion ships, along with the elementals. Although i did kick butt in the test (Wiped a replicator battlecruiser and its fighter contingent off the board in one blow, with a disruptor)
two distinct alliances have already formed: Aggraviel, Flood and Graviton (Im helping them, to a degree. if i didnt my forces would be stuck with doing nothing), while the Drork and Elementals are allied (I think)

Wow, sounds like you got a very interesting mix from all imaginable sources. Sounds fun, really.

Are you playing this like a conventional pen-and-paper RPG - or better, in that case, strategy game? Did you define your own ruleset?

Post Sat Feb 26, 2005 2:17 am

Pretty much pen and paper, although a large contingent of data is in my head. Im looking into getting a large A0 or A1 laminated board that be can use as a battle table, so i dont have to borrow a school witeboard for each one (From what i can discern, the Drorks are going to declare a full-scale war on the Aggraviel). A friend of mine is currently working on the Troop battle system.
Im trying to keep it as far away from computers as possible, apart from biographies and reports. if we start using a gaming engine for either system, we lose the element of randimosity

Very interesting. So it's like a tabletop strategy game, I figure.

> randimosity

Er... what's that? Or do you mean randomness?
