All this...good graphics! too much for me to handle! too muc

This is where you can discuss your homework, family, just about anything, make strange sounds and otherwise discuss things which are really not related to the Lancer-series. Yes that means you can discuss other games.

All this...good graphics! too much for me to handle! too muc

all these high detail things coming out at such a fast pace!

Halo 2, Doom 3, Half Life 2, and now the Unreal 3 Engine!
(in order from worst to best as i see)

my computer BARELY supports HL2. the graphics card does, but my processor is 400mhx short. my computer was once the best you could get...now it's low end and not evne supported by a lot of things.

just look at the improvement from Unreal 1 to Unreal 2 to Unreal 3

i'm surprised that i haven't drooled all over my desk because of this

*EDIT*
speaking of computers.....
how would you like to have that ?

Well I guess you'd better start saving up for a better PC Wolfy .

Nice link wofly, thanks for the pic

Maybe time to save up a bit of cash and upgrade the processor...or do you have a DELL type one?

Post Wed Feb 02, 2005 5:38 am

oh, NEVER would i EVER get a dell
i'd probably have to get a new motherboard though, because it is old. i don't have an AGP slot. i need it for the graphics card my friend gave me (Gefore 5200) which is much better than Radeon 7200 by the way

Post Wed Feb 02, 2005 5:43 am

my brother got a dell.
i laughed.
now he wants to upgrade to a laptop?

my computer runs hl2 well but thats probabaly as far as it will go

how much do you earn?
how much are you willing to spend?

Summer '03 I was earning around 600 Pounds ($1000) a month as a Lab Assistant after leaving school...

With two month's earnings I:
- Purchased a PlayStation 2 (140 pounds)

- Took 200 pounds to Cornwall for a holiday

- Built the following PC:
-- Pentium 4 2.4GHz (cost 40 pounds (inc. delivery) off of an auction on Amazon)
-- GeForce 4 MX 440 AGP 8x 128MB Graphics Card (64 pounds from PC World)
-- 512MB 133MHz SD-RAM (38 pounds from a PC market)
-- Gigabyte GA-IDX P4 Motherboard + CPU Heatsink/Fan (30 pounds for both from a PC market)
-- Maxtor 20GB HDD (60 pounds from a PC market)
-- FDD (3 pounds from a PC market)
-- Lite-On CD-RW (32 pounds inc. delivery from Amazon)

Total = 227 pounds

I recently purchased a 200GB HDD for file sharing purposes, costing me 100 pounds...

You see, with knowledge, and shopping around, you can get a decent PC for a reasonable price...

If you buy the above set-up from somewhere like Dell, Tiny, etc. you'd be looking at 600 pounds minimum...

Don't buy, BUILD I TELL YOU!!!

I feel so sad, I wish my computer that I got for Christmas would even support Freelancer, but I need a 16.0 MB graphics card (min.) And I only have a 4.0, WA ha ha ha . I have a dell supporting the very crappy Pentium 3 processor, and Windows 2000. If I just had a PC that could play Freelancer and Far Cry, I would be happy. So wolfy, don't beat your self up about your computer, I would give almost anything if my computer was as good as yours.

Killa, you should be able to get a 64mb card for about $50 to $75 easy.

Post Wed Feb 02, 2005 12:25 pm

Yeah, Fd, even though I would go for a 128 MB for about $80.

All mine needs is more RAM. Speaking of RAM, I upgraded it from 128 to 384 about 18 months ago, bought it from Dell *spit*. Turns out the Dell RAM cost more than normal PC2100, but what did I know about computers 18 months ago? So a few weeks ago, I'm thinking of getting more RAM, So I open it up to check what kind I have. The 256 MB module was PC2100 manufactured by Dell, the other one, that came with the dell, was manufactured by... Samsung! They didn't even include their own RAM in the system. How cheap is that?

well...this topic isn't really about the woes about cruddy computers and how to build them...it's about the wonderfulness of the Unreal 3 Engine.
(i posted the link to the pictures of the HL2 themed tower (and other stuff) because it is slightly computer related)

Post Wed Feb 02, 2005 2:41 pm

You have the rankings wrong. Its HL2, Halo 2, Doom 3 , and Unreal 3. oh btw no current computer can run doom 3 on full graphics. Unless it is a dual processor Athlon Fx53 with about 4gbs of ram and either a ATI X800 Xt or Geforce 6800 ULTRA PCi-E version.

Post Wed Feb 02, 2005 4:45 pm

alpha leader, as much as i LOVE halo 2, i'd have to still say that HL2 has better graphics

Post Wed Feb 02, 2005 7:33 pm

I mean in the way you can run it. HL2 is optimized. Halo 2 is not. Halo 2 WOULD not run on my other computer that can run HL 2

Well, I personally think technology is moving far too fast than it should hard for someone to keep up, like say, as much as I am astonished how far the unreal engine has GOT, i am even moreso disgusted to hear that no current computer can run it, especially after shelling out just about 4k on a fully loaded alienware 2 months ago. I mean, if the new unreal comes out this year, and it cant run unreal, then this computers official lifespan was LESS than a year, I see why people are switching to consoles now.

Guys, it may be just me, but how can you compare the graphics of a PC game with a console game. Furthermore, it's a matter of taste. "I like spaghetti, you don't. I think Doom II has better graphics, you think that HL2 has"

Anyways, for any youngster out there who don't earn enough money to upgrade their pc: show your dad (or mum) how beautiful those games are. Let them get involved, let them play and mark my words, they'll financielly (sp?) assist you. I'm talking out of experience here
