mp3 players always i have an rca mp3/cd/radio, player and a little muvo flashdrive/ mp3 player only 64 megs though not much music out of it

Anyways, mp3 all the way for me, I have one myself. CD's scratch all the time and then they'll start skipping parts etc. and you have to bring a lot of them with you, while on a mp3 player you can easily store loads and loads (depending of the memory of course) and the size of them is also one of the best features (my mp3 player is only as large as a lighter)There's also other great features on mp3 players (also depending on which one you have of course).

I prefer CD's, the "Put my money in different items, rather than in one item and loose it all. " MP3's also will not play in my truck CD player.

I agree with the boss go for the mp3 player, it may be more expensive but its quality is second to none. I got one for christmas and its what i recommend you get

CD player. MP3's have a different quality of sound, an overtone that reminds me of ten inch long nails scraping across a blackboard while a yak audibly belches nearby.

There's no difference in sound quality when you exceed a 44KHz sample rate.

MP3s all the way for me....I encoded my entire CD collection so I now have over 30Gb of music at my finger tips. Excellent for those long drives home.

30 gigs huh, don't you get totally lost when you have that many songs on it Stu?, I know I would. How many songs do you have on it btw? Must be thousands

Not really, I've got them all categorised under 23 genres and 168 artists, so believe it or not they're actually quite easy to find. According to iTunes I currently have....

...I had no idea that I had that much music to be honest. I think its epics though like the complete collections of Pink Floyd, Jimi Hendrix, BB King, The Doors, Led Zeppelin, John Mayall, Eric Clapton, Creedance Clearwater Revival and Bob Dylan that take up most of the space. Especially floyd - last count there was 22 albums by them alone. I'm a bit of collection freak as you might be able to tell

CD player all the way, even though I myself have about 1500 songs. MP3 players are kinda out of my price range (along with things like RAM and bread) and it makes me think, I have a computer to listen to music on, I have an old stereo system that delivers some serious kung fu, why would I spend $300 on something else when I listen to music outside of the house maybe 2-3 hours a month.

Penny Arcade, I'm on the Gabe side of the argument. This holds completely true.

Besides, I have friends with iPods, I don't understand why there's a mini, I could crush the full sized one with my forefinger and middle finger, on muscle relaxers.

yea, i was thinking about this more:

now, the decision of mp3 player or CD player really depends on the CD/mp3 player. i have CDs that hold a good 700mb of stuff on them, and my CD player can play mp3s, so i can just make a CD with mp3s on it instead of making an actual music CD, and have a good 700mb of songs. just one CD of that is better than those smaller mp3 players (256mb or 512mb)
so having somehing like a 5gb Creative Zen would be good too...

I had no option but to go for the 40Gb iPod. I liked the idea of having an mp3 player but couldn't afford one that would be worthwhile to me, so I entered a load of competitions to test my luck. Just before christmas I won an iPod mini online. I figured this would be good enough, but when it turned up it was bright pink. Talk about gutted! So I stuck it onto eBay, and a young lass bought from me for £160. I threw in another £100 from my last months wage and bought myself the iPod 40Gb.

Its brilliant, but don't listen to people who say that they're perfect. Since I've had it I've had to factory reset the thing twice. Luckily for me, I've got all my music backed up on my work machine...which brings me to another point...

The biggest pain in the neck when it comes to mp3s is encoding everything. For the more commercial CDs, the CDDB will find all of your track details, but at least 40% of my collection is obscure so I had to hand type everything in. Its taken me the best part of a year to get all of my collection into iTunes.

However the beauty is that now its done, I only have to do it when I buy a new CD. One at a time isn't too bad.

As for the stereo at home thing...I bought an iTrip, so my iPod sits on my coffee table at home and transmits to my stereo...there's no loss in quality. Listening to my collection has never been so easy.

I'd say go for a CD player that has MP3 playback capabilities. I have a pretty decent one from Sony, it never (or rarely) skips on the MP3 playback, and the batteries seem to last longer when playing MP3s.

And really, I haven't really seen anyone listen to all 700mb of MP3s in a mobile setting. That's almost 4-5 hours of music right there.

How much music do you have, wolfy? If you're like me, have more gigs of music than you do dollars of your wallet, then choose your own path. If you don't really have that much (< 3G then burn it onto mp3 CDs and get an mp3 enabled CD player. If you have more than three gigs, you may actually want to go for a player. I know way too many people who have 20 gig iPods and 500 megs of songs. Such a waste...

ipods aren't worth the money, now Creative Zens...

as for the amount of songs i have...i'm not real sure, i still haven't transferred all my music from my old hard drive, it's kinda scattered all around. but i know i have at least 1gb
