Metal Gear Solid 3: Snake Eater

This is where you can discuss your homework, family, just about anything, make strange sounds and otherwise discuss things which are really not related to the Lancer-series. Yes that means you can discuss other games.

Metal Gear Solid 3: Snake Eater

Not too long ago I finally picked up Metal Gear Solid 3: Snake Eater, and all I can say is....... wow. I would even go as far to say that this is one of the best games of all time! To keep it quick, here.

Pros

+Everyone thought MGS2 was a graphical masterpeice, and this compleatly blows it out of the water.

+If you remember from the first 2 MGS games, when you were cornered by multiple guards most of the times the smackdowns you recieved wern't pretty. But now with the addition of the CQC system, you can fling one guard into another on the opposite side of you, and using the knife in CQC is satisfying too.

+The AI in this game could probably sometimes pass off as real human biengs.

+There are lots of intresting characters, like we have come to expect with most MGS games. I liked the Cobras the most though, The Pain, The Fear, The End, The Fury, The Sorrow, The Boss.

+NO NAKID RAIDEN!!

+For the first time in a MGS game, the story actually makes sence.

Cons

-The controls are starting to feel dated. You can shoot in first person view, but you still can't move while doing it.

-This gave me a slight problem... the camera. I am used to having complete control of the camera like you do in Splinter Cell or Prince of Persia, so it took some getting used to.

-The script writing is atrocious. Here is an example. Colonel- We've been given the go-ahead for the Vertious Mission.
Snake- The Vertuial Mission?
Colonel- No the Vertious Mission.
do you see wtf I'm talkin about?

Most of these cons can be easly overlooked, so I would give this game a ten out of ten. I would highly recomend anyone picking this one up for the PS2. But I mainly want to know what you think about this game.

sorry about the spelling, computer problems again, had to restore my system so I havn't put my spell check back on yet.

Steve? What the heck are you talking about? If you think that Snake is really old then you should know that the one in MGS3 is not the same Solid Snake as in other MGS games. This snake ether becomes Solidus Snake or Big Boss. I think it was Big Boss because if I remembr correctly Solidus is Raiden's father and Big Boss is in some twisted way Snakes father. Correct me if I'm wrong. But as of right now, this is my favorate game in the world (Well, at least untill Splinter Cell: Chaos Theory comes out.) But MGS3 Is what knocked Freelancer out of my number one spot. Don't get me wrong, Freelancer is still my favorate PC game, but MGS3 is my favorate console game (At least untill March 31). I would recomend anyone picking it up for at least a rental. The story is good, and I don't know how long it is because I still havn't finished the game. Unfortunatlly, the background story is too complicated for me to understand, but mabye I'm just an idiot. But I can be sure that I'm not the only one here who doesn't watch all of those hour long cutscenes, because even if they are action filled, they do start to get a little boring after a while. But I say buy the game, if you have about 40-50 dollars to blow and you own a PS2, then your in luck.

Sorry, i couldn't use my spell checker.

Sorry, I just had to come out of retirement just to comment on Snake Eater.

By far, it is one of the best -- if not the best -- game that I have played in a long time. The dialogue and plotline are both top-notch and effective; I never got confused as to what was going on throughout the game. (And for the Virtual/Virtuous conversation, I don't really think that part is a misstep. Most likely, it emphasizes Snake being a soldier and not a man of words, or it could be an inside joke to MGS fans who have played MGS2 and understood its themes. Or, it could be that Snake misheard the Colonel.)

And while the controls may feel dated to some, the controls are well suited for this game. There's no need to do multi-button combinations for moves or anything like that. I would say the controls are very clean and doesn't impede the playing experience at all.

And the camera? Well, if there was a free roaming camera, then the game would be too easy because you would see everything. The camera works because it limits your line of sight and forces you to play "as Snake" -- being as immersive as possible. However, the camera can move in the game; you can use the right analog stick to move the camera slightly to get a better view of the field. But, this proves the point that I made above -- it makes the game too easy by having an adjustable camera.

Killa, I was making a joke about gravdigging. Since this thread had been "dead" for a week at the time of my post, I considered it gravedigging. I was in no way passing judgement on the game, even though It may have sounded that way. I would go out and buy it, if I had the time and money to do so. I wasn't talking about MGS, alright?
