Anne Mcaffrey? I have a few of her books somewhere. Read them too long ago to remember exactly the content (not to speak about the title), but, IIRC, it was a trilogy about some live planet. Not bad, not bad at all. Unfortunately, never laid my hands on anything else written by her.

the 2 best series of her books are the tower and the hive series it starts with a book called the rowan if i remember and the crystal singer series though the series about pern (starts with dragonsdawn) is the best known
there are many others if you see them zlo try the "ship who sang" or "restoree"
i think the series you refer to are known as "the powers that be" she also has written with a few up and coming writers which are pretty good as well

problem i s I read so many books I rarely remember the author, except if I read a lot of his books.
Though i'm reading an interesting book By Lincoln Child at the moment...Utopia.

Spinneret by Timothy Zahne isnt' to bad. And erm...Battlefiel Earth...by L.Ron Hubbard it seems like.

Thats all names I can remember at the moment. Oh well.
