The Cure for the common cold

Is there such a thing? I'm trying desperatly to stave off a sickness right now. I'm taking some new herbal vitaminy thing called Airborne formula, in conjunction with regular vitamin C and some zinc tablets. Since the cold is a virus, there is of course not a real cure, but is there anything you wise TLR folks have found to work well (besides Esky's obvious choice of ginger beer...)

Apart from a nice big dose of Vitamin C, no there isn't much you can do when you've got one. But to help prevent them, start building up your immunity in autumn. You can do this through various herbs and tablet treatments. And, lots of Oranges Watch out for Ecchinacea. It does help, but it's not as "miraculous" as the advertisers proclaim it.

On this, I've always wondered why we can go to space, build CERNs etc. and not have a cure for the simple virus that has plagued humanity for eternia. I found out this.

The "cold" is a virus. Viruses are often mutating and this is why you may get many differant symptons with colds. Because they are always mutating, you cannot create a cure for it, if you did it would be already obsolete and that cold strain may have even died out.

I don't find them so bad, I just hate having a blocked nose

you should try some creole pepper sauce, not long after eating, it brings a tear to your eye, you sweat like mad, and your nose runs, so best do it over tissue

@ dear santa,

this christmas i want a mind of information just like yours. after your reply to the brandy thread and now this i think we should begin an ask darkov forum.

as for the common cold, how about living in countries with sub zero temp would that help kill the bug in the first place or is it a bit extreme to emigrate to the poles just to avoid head colds.

This is partially an Urban Myth, it basically comes down to: The Cold temperature deminishes activity for the immune system, therefore becoming more vulnerable to the Cold Virus.

I think its safe to tell here and now, that however the brainiacs thinks about it, There will never be a cure for the common cold, Its something the body needs, either one way or the other, what Kimk says is also true, the only way you can prevent The common cold entering your body is by getting the antibodies needed to defeat the disease at forehand.

I go with LOTS of tea...well I dont go with it, its just that my mother makes me drink it

my grandmother knows some old recipe for cold...it involves onion. You boil it or something and drink it. Of course she made me drink it once...and never again!! after taking a sip I though I was gonna die..the terrible taste, thinking about it makes me sick... but hey it did cure me

Darn, I don't see any problem here - get dead drunk. Believe me, in the morning you'll have more serious things to worry about than your cold (you won't even notice it).

Being diabetic, orange juice isn't avalible on my list. I'm trying to make it to the weekend... BTW being cold outside doesn't kill the cold- being a virus its not 'alive' and so is quite resilient. Thanks for your help. I think i hit the Nyquil next to ensure a bit of good sleep and go from there.

Echinacea is quite good too. I'm not sure if anybody has mentioned it.

i'd embrace the common cold actually. it'll strengthen your immune system and, due to its variability, get your immune system adapted to variable foes. imo, in this case, those lymphocytes rock best. phags are too picky.

your body needs th comman cold, This is for your imune system, The more you build it up, The easier you body can fight off other infections, and other things,

the vius keeps changing so our bodies can keep learning, from it, and grow. If we didn't have the comman and cold, we may still be fighting from more dangourous things like polo, or other things like are extinct.

It is kinda natures way of getting use ready for what may come. Kinda liek flu shots, or other tytpe of shots, that help use fight of those infecitons, If we didn;t have th command cold our emune system will not be in use as much. Start to deteraite, and more things will harm use, Like a littl einfected cut.

Thats my two cents
