Pupil shoots himself after failing exams

This is where you can discuss your homework, family, just about anything, make strange sounds and otherwise discuss things which are really not related to the Lancer-series. Yes that means you can discuss other games.

Pupil shoots himself after failing exams

This is so sad. And there might be many more of this come 29 Dec when the Gr12 results comes out.
So if I suddenly disappear you'll know that I failed my year
OK...not a good joke to made. I've heard about gr 12's comitting suicide when they fail, but never one of the lower grades its so sad

more males under the age of 25 die in ireland from suicide each year than in road accidents. for a country with a bad record for road accidents what does that say about our young male depression rates? one of the highest per capita in europe!

10 years ago a guy i grew up with met me by chance in a gym on a thursday evening. we spoke for a few mins. young, enough point to his future life it seemed for him to think it worthy of keeping fit for to see it through. he hung himself in a nearby forest that night.

i have known many people who have passed away from age, accident, early life sickness but his is the only face i ever think i have seen in a crowd. the only face i walk past on the street and turn to make sure i'm not mad. the only one to haunt me.

it would be purile for me to say that no matter how bad things seem there must be a better alternative, it is probably not that clear cut in the mind of somebody who does it. sycho this is indeed very very sad

This is not good leading up to Xmas..first the ex- Pantera guy and now this kid. Why can't death be abolished from November to January?

Christmas Approaches.

Just look the other way until about January 10th and you'll be OK.

Put some duct tape over your chimney too.

This is why I study. Sometimes people do this partially because of all of the pressure teachers put on tests. It seems that in Ohio now you have to pass a standardized test every month or they remove all of your food and cram something in your throat so that you can't breathe. The problem is that people teach to the tests instead of telling you something you're going to use, so It's really hard when you fail a test and it seems like you're a failure.

@ glock and the all seeing eye.

i reckon cynicism is often the best form of self defence. the reality of what goes on around me is hard to cope and so far beyond my control its hard to cope with unless i laugh at it and more sadly, ignore a lot of it. problems do arise when my humour if misconstrude as callousness though

@ Eh_Steve. it's hard to define failure. how often do we see the people we build up as heroes, all the money, success, material wants of the world and they overdose on drugs, have sad and empty relationships, and cry about a lack of meaning in their lives. it is up to each individual to decide for themselves what is important and to judge their own success.

a lot of the success i have today is due to the failures i had in the past.

Why do people do stupid things like this?

Post Sat Dec 11, 2004 10:59 pm

could it be that parents puts too much pressure on their children?
I know my parents wasn't happy with me when I did bad in tets and stuff, but that was because I could do better.
But in some cases, I guess the parents just expect too much.

It's a lot of things, even for kids, it is a lot of things. Certainly the pressure to perform well has a lot to do with it. But it isn't just the pressure, it also his how the kid sees himself/herself. This again can be from parental nurture issues but it also can be peer pressure too.

Thing about suicide is that, in fact, when the time comes for the depressed individual to take such an action, he/she actually comes out of the depressed state. At least, that is the current understanding of why a small but significant percentage of depressed teenagers who take anti-depressants are more susceptible to suicide. The drug lifts them out of the depression but, because their minds are not yet as fully developed as more adult ones are, the idea that the only recourse is suicide can have a greater hold over that teen's mind than on an adult's so that once the depressive torpor is lifted, they take action.

@Druid

I lost an acquaintance, not a close friend but an acquaintance, the same way ... woods, tree, rope, etc. But it was much longer ago than the tragedy you experienced. I stopped seeing him in a crowd a good while back ... I didn't thinnk anyone else would have that experience.

Luckily, I was not on the search party team that found him.

indy...I wont entirely agree with that...a good friend off mine has clinical depression, she tried to commit suicide a few years back...she went for treatment but it didnt help...she kept on cutting herself nd hurting herself. It was a battle convincing her everyday that there is reason to stay alive or not run away. She improved a lot when she was put on anti depressants, the only problem I could see with the AD, is that she got dependant on them...as soon as she forgot to take them she started stressing...she thought that she cannot do without them.
Its now 3 years since I last saw her...she had a pretty bad time recently, but she's alive, tbh I dont know if she is still on medicine, but I think so.

@sw.....

Your friend would be one of the majority who are unaffected by taking ADs. Nonetheless, a significant population of teens who do take ADs become significantly greater suicide risks. And the current thinking on the "mechanics of action" when the suicide is connected to the taking of the AD is what I have described. I would hope that it doens't apply to everyone. I'll go back and change my post to qualify to this point.
