I love music, MP3s are okay, but since when does music really ever get incoded in 5.1?

Computers and entertainment systems can make you think there is a 3d evironment, but I see no purpose for it. Movies and games on the other hand....

I agree with Sirius, it is the audio device that determines how many and to what channesl sound is distrubited to. Though cetrain codecs as well as composition programs allow you to make a file specificaly for 5.1

However, it is quite illogical since as previously stated, you get the "false" 3d environment from audio hardware. But if they make the "5.1 encoding" standard that will allow for a much broader expance in game mod making for ambient SFX. So either way its ok...not too excited by it. But knowing me, i will get the latest MP3 codecs and encoders justto be up with the times. But wolfy and a few others like me who write music can benifit from it to an extent...especially in the Techno department "Fruity Loops 3.5" now with 5.1 dolby encoding lol

Man, that would be awesome. I'd be drowning in a sea of sound and loving every minute of it.

I guess that the theory behind it is that many people now have 5.1 systems of varying degrees of quality, and that this will encourage further use of the CODEC. The only problem is that many people use MP3's for MP3 players, and thus 5.1 channels would be completely superfluous.

i didnt even read everything

but darkshadow, i don't think there will ever be FL Studio 3.5 with 5.1 encoders for mp3's...it will be more like... 4.5.2, or 4.6. i dont think they will update anything under 4.0.1. (i have 4.5.1....)
