Alchemy

This is where you can discuss your homework, family, just about anything, make strange sounds and otherwise discuss things which are really not related to the Lancer-series. Yes that means you can discuss other games.

Alchemy

I was just pondering something.

Is it really physically possible to turn lead into gold?

Just a hypothetical for you peoples at TLR.

Considering the fact that lead and gold are separated by only one proton, it should theoretically be possible. I think it's one proton...

Probably, with a lot of effort ....

surely worth the effort though

Surely if that were true it would have been done already. And thats nuclear fusion we're talking about. Scientists have had enough difficulty just turning hydrogen into helium. How much the more so would they struggle with trying to turn lead into gold. And to what purpose, ultimately? (Other than the devaluation of gold and the potential collapse of the world's economy.)

acid is a proton donor, and a base is a proton acceptor. with some twisting of logic and an acid strong enough, you might be able to convince lead to take a proton..

then again, i'd be more interested in producing more useful materials at lower cost, like diamond and platinum. diamond for cutting, platinum for super strong, super light aircraft and spacecraft.

if my dear old bat of a Chem teacher didn't missteach me and if he were totally blind regarding the periodical table of elements I was taught that Gold was 13 times heavier then lead, so how could they differ just one proton??

Also, if the theory might just work, (I mean, take it this way, everything can be tried) how would you top it from bursting into smittereens?? Gold and Lead differ in more then one thing then Protons, there also Neutrons to account for, to nullify the amount of positive energy in the core, which clearly can't be nullified by electrons alone.

Then again, I might be off a little...

Protons are overweight these days

There's nothing wrong with missiles

Loc - You're right; lead actually has three more protons than gold. I'm don't know where I picked up that "one proton" thing from *shakes head*. According to this lead actually *has* been turned into gold albeit in a minute amount.

well, lead into gold..lol, have you eva heard of tesla? with 500,000,000 particles of dutirium you can make one particle of gold
