Time Travel

This is where you can discuss your homework, family, just about anything, make strange sounds and otherwise discuss things which are really not related to the Lancer-series. Yes that means you can discuss other games.

if I had a time machine, I'd go back in time to the beginning of this thread and warn the mods to remove every single comment that ff and sirius have made in an attempt to destroy it.

*HINT*

ok fine, i'll delete all my comments, i realise now it was a stupid thing to do.

Has no one seen the paradox of time travel?

You read about a moment in history. A boat sinks. You go back into history and warn the people not to get on board. They head your warning. You go back into your time. The history book reads nothing about it. Problem, it did not happen, was not in the book, you could not have read about it an went into th past to change it, so it does happen again.

Or like some one said, if you go back into history, kill you grandfather before your father is born, you won't be born, If your not born, how can you go back in history and kil you grand father.

That would be where the Multiverse theory comes in quite conveniently (and I think someone thought it up with that purpose in mind)

you go back in Time to kill Hitler, to state an example often used by theoricists, your mission succeeds, youve killed Hitler, before WWII could ever happen or even before his rise to power, only as stated before, History already happened, so it will spawn a new one (a cookie for the one who can spot where I got part of this from ) A new Timeline will be formed, in which Hitler has been "Deleted" before his rise to power, so when you return, the history books are still the same for you, but fr the people in that timeline, it has been changed.

My point being, what happened, happened, there is no changing that, for your timeline that is, would you travel back in time, to prevent this particular item, or to kill something off, and you succeed, this particular thing would cause a little split in the Time-space continuum, the split would be marked as the start of a new timeline.

Me thinks Loc has been watching Marty McFly "Go back in time" a wee bit too much

*faints*

So what your saying is, its impossible to go back and kill your grandfather becuase if you do, you never went back in time because you never existed in the first place?

*faints again*

I'd vote for C&C: Red alert. Where's my cookie, Loc?
BTW, killing der Fuehrer would be a bad idea... unless you take comrad Stalin with him

Life is only given once ... and most often by accident

Which is why I say travel to the future. Find out what will happen and then come back to make the necessary exploits to better yourself.

Post Thu Nov 11, 2004 3:00 pm

i very much traveling forward would be possible

Post Thu Nov 11, 2004 4:34 pm

There is a problem with that as well. It was in a book, i forgot the title though. This guy travels into the feuture, gets some medicine that is supposed to kill all desieses, brings it back with him and disperses it. Everything is nice and happy all throughout the world. After a couple of decades population is increasing with out controll. After a century or two, Earth can no longer support much more life. We end up almost destroying ourselves. (This is the part where I started dissagreeing with the book however: ) Someone in that new future goes back and kills the guy that went forward anyway.

If you go forward in time, you also have to think about something. Fate. If you believe you can go forward in time, then there must be fate. By the way, why don't we examine this.

2005 2100

We go forward in time, to 2100 lets say. And bring something back that helps everyone, technically, if you went forward it has already happened? I don't know how to really explain it....

Either way, I'm not saying it isn't possible to travel through time... You just can't change something that has already happened...

Post Fri Nov 12, 2004 2:49 pm

if you go forwards, you would already have done so, and there would be no need to go forwards again.

or let me put it this way:

a pizza delivery company has FTL motorbikes, the pizzas arrive before you made the call, so there would be no need to make the call, as you have already done so in the future.

wasnt that in bill and ted. they win the day because they vow once everything is over, they'd go back in time and steal their dad's keys so they can break the dudes out of prison and they'd set up distractions etc. pretty cool use of the timeline and perfectly viable

Post Fri Nov 12, 2004 9:15 pm

You are not seeing the whole picture. If the distractions were in place, would they have to go back at all?

Post Fri Nov 12, 2004 11:43 pm

they would have to go back to set them up, but they wouldnt need to as it had already been done once.

Post Sat Nov 13, 2004 6:02 am

no they HAD to go back, it was inevitable
you have to understand that the second time travel is proved possible, then the future is already written and that we have NO control over our own lives or existence WHATSOEVER. If bill and ted didnt go back later on and set up everything they needed, they would not have succeeded. so they made a note that even though they did have everything exactly where they wanted it, they themselves put it there so in order for it to be there they would need to go back and do it, regardless of the fact that its there anyway.
