Baseball use to be fun, ages ago when it was a sport, not a multi million dallar buisness. Then, any game was good to watch.

and what's this World Series malarkey? no-one plays it professionally outside North America (except maybe in Japan but that doesn't count) so how can it possibly be a "World" Series?

I know Taw'll probably not see this but what the heck...

Apparently, the first "World Series" was so named because it was sponsored by a newspaper called, you guessed it, The World.

Edit: Stop mocking me!

@Taw

In the top professional level, there are only Red Sox and White Sox although the Cincinnati team, the Reds, used to be the Red Leggings ... another reference to red stockings.

In lower levels, there are Blue Sox, as in the Utica Blue Sox. Don't know about any other colors. And, of course, there were the notorious Chicago Black Sox. The suspected real reason why Babe Ruth was traded to New York Yankees.

The so-called "Black Sox" were the Chicago White Sox who won the World Series but who were then discredited when it was learned they had been in cahoots with gamblers to fix games.

The World Series, at the time of its first naming was, in fact, a World Series. No one else played the game anyway. . It stayed that way for a very long time so the name has stuck. It is now played throughout the Western Hemisphere and has a strong following in East Asia. Europe also seems to be picking it up as are the Russians.

Unlike English football, the best professional baseball is still played in its country of origin, the US , and stars from other countries all aspire to play in the US Major Leagues so, in a sense, the World Series is still pretty much a World Series.

Never played rounders, can't say anything about that.

You're entitled to your own opinion
It's fun to play and fun to watch but there are other great sports on this world

Yes, but baseball is the best!(I also enjoy watching/playing football(american), basketball and hockey)

You can run, but run fast.... 1 shot is all I need.

REAL football is better than american football. Sure I will watch both, but I rather be playing soccer.

soccer is my least favorite of the major sports here in the US

Cause you don't know how to play? Or you don't like running up and down the field/pitch a lot?

Post Wed Nov 03, 2004 4:01 am

No i played for a few years, I did not find it that enjoyable and its just a tad boring watching people run back and forth with a ball, and dont say thats what people do in hockey, cause they have sticks and can check eachother

You can run, but run fast.... 1 shot is all I need.

American Football: An easy version of rugby for americans who don't want to get hurt

Baseball: Proffesional Rounders

How do you play this "rounders" i keep hearing about? I know its similar to baseball, but not exactly alike, i would be interested in knowing more.

Lol there is a Black Sox team. Well a softball team anyway. It's NZ's national team though softball is somewhat unheard of here, the dominating sports being rugby and cricket. As in reply to someones post, sure they're the most well-known to foreigners but the real reason I think the Yankees have so many fans is because there are so many people in NY!

Isn't is strange that they are the world champions?
