In the top professional level, there are only Red Sox and White Sox although the Cincinnati team, the Reds, used to be the Red Leggings ... another reference to red stockings.
In lower levels, there are Blue Sox, as in the Utica Blue Sox. Don't know about any other colors. And, of course, there were the notorious Chicago Black Sox. The suspected real reason why Babe Ruth was traded to New York Yankees.
The so-called "Black Sox" were the Chicago White Sox who won the World Series but who were then discredited when it was learned they had been in cahoots with gamblers to fix games.
The World Series, at the time of its first naming was, in fact, a World Series. No one else played the game anyway.
. It stayed that way for a very long time so the name has stuck. It is now played throughout the Western Hemisphere and has a strong following in East Asia. Europe also seems to be picking it up as are the Russians.
Unlike English football, the best professional baseball is still played in its country of origin, the US
, and stars from other countries all aspire to play in the US Major Leagues so, in a sense, the World Series is still pretty much a World Series.
Never played rounders, can't say anything about that.
