a Geforce 2 MX440?? I haven't heard of that model, what I have heard of is a Geforce 4 MX440. I could be wrong (and most likely am)

Assuming you mean the Geforce 2 MX, which as a former owner, I know it fully supports DirectX 7 and has support for DirectX 8.1

Yup thats the one, the 440 is just one version of the MX

that's not q as simple as it sounds. as the MX440 is still being asembled by oems it has been made DirectX9.0+ compatible by some, although it belongs to the DX8.1 generation at best. Nividia drivers should allow you to play most DX9+ games with a reasonably late and well-made card, although you will almost certainly ahve to turn a lot of stuff off. Your real issue is memory. your bios AGP aperture should be set to 64mb and your AGP multiplier to 2x/4x, no higher, and you need a minimum of 512mb RAM in the system to allow any respectable performance out of that card.

however some £25 Wang-po-tech rubbish from Taiwan isn't going to cut the mustard, is it? I'd raid the piggy bank if I were you, or go do some oddjobs and get some cash.
