daikatana was John Romero's opus. After leaving id, he started up Ion Storm, who's title games were Deus Ex and Daikatana. Romero was putting all his time and money into Daikatana and his name alone was creating massive amounts of buzz on the internet. As far as they hype was concerned, this game was going to be amazing, it was going to blow the recently released Half Life out of the water, it was going to walk on that same water like the jesus of all games. Turns out , it was a pile of crap. Daikatana sold loads of copies because people had pre-ordered it when the hype was good, but after the word got around how bad it really was, no one would touch it.
For a game its not bad, better than alot of people could do, but it was just a stupid story, cruddy graphics that were soon outdated. Just quake 2 but without the fun basically. Deus Ex went on to be labeled game of the year and Ion strom booted out Romero and his department. He's now become a bit of a joke of a developer who makes games for pocket PCs. Thats what happens when you plaster your name over the press in an effort to boost your ego and sales, if it turns out to be crap, every knows who's to blame.
