[uAnother pipe-bomb rocks Cape Town [/u

“Tell me, please God, tell me, are my legs still there?” These were the words of a victim in the latest pipe bomb explosion. Anger and fright passed through the city when news of the latest explosion was heard.

The building is still standing, but the inside is a mass off tangled steel. The black ceiling and walls are a perfect match for the emotions at the scene.

When the bomb exploded many people were enjoying lunch in what used to be one of Cape Town’s most famous restaurants.

Fifty people were killed, with twenty more injured. Bystanders tell how a fiery fireball suddenly burst from the building.

The only comment that the police were willing to give at this time, is that investigations are underway.

A reliable source told the newspaper that a terrorist group accepted responsibility for the explosion. They also threatened that more bombs were to follow.

This was the fifth explosion in the last month. All over Cape Town, residents are asking questions. The police promised extra security and a thorough investigation.

Are they doing the bombing for any reason, or just random destruction?

"one of Cape Town’s most famous restaurants."

which restaurant? the Allegheny, the Blue Water, the Four Seasons, the Maharani?

Eh guys...it was a creative writing assignment, none of it is true
Tho there were a lot of pipe bomb explosions in CT a few years ago, I thik it was gangs doing it, or I cant really remember, one of the most publicised, was the Planet Hollywood bombing

Surely you want to make it as convincing as possible? And if you're doing that, you want to have as much accurate detail as you can.

Its a bit difficult with a word restriction, besides I was in a hurry when I did it, and I got 80%, so I'm happy

From what I've seen/heard, pipe bombs produce a big flash and then a bit of smoke, no fireball. They're designed to spew shrapnel, not combust stuff. Check your facts before you do this stuff, I'm sure there are many an anarchist out there who would be happy to render assistance. --- VH16

It is a different type of writing sw. But I see why you got the 80. You've adopted a news article's tone of voice quite well it reads as a news article would read.

@VH, this is a controlled piece, written in class, so there is no way to get that info and I don't include pipe-bombs in my aaray of weapons, so I wouldnt know, this was only to assess our ability on writing a newspaper article
@Indy Thx, its actually not that difficult, i was quite surptised by my mark actually, because I didnt think that the article was worth much but ow well I'm not moaning

@sw

long pots? DRUG ADDICT!!!

Seriously, it reads like a report yet I need to ask how was it formatted? In standard article form or in a more essay/ magazine article format?

Post Mon Sep 20, 2004 5:20 am

@sw.... it depends on what your teacher was looking for doesn't it? Also, it is easier than you think mainly because this style in both written and aural form surrounds you daily so you could have picked it up by osmosis.

Having said that, there are no glaring grammatical errors in what you wrote which always help on the grading.

It was in the correct newspaper format
Indy tru, this was actually one of the first pieces in which there wer no mistakes, which are actually awesome because I didnt use a dictionary or anything to check for spelling errors
