Equilibrium

This is where you can discuss your homework, family, just about anything, make strange sounds and otherwise discuss things which are really not related to the Lancer-series. Yes that means you can discuss other games.

Equilibrium

I watched this movie on TV a few minutes ago called Equilibrium, I didnt get to see the whole thing, but its about some guy called The Cleric (If i heard correctly) fighting some tyrranical regime in the future and all that nonsense. In any case, I didnt watch much except for a hallway scene which imo is better than the last 2 matrix movies put together, the lead uses 2 automatic pistols to take down a room full of at least about 30 assault rifle wielding guards in mere seconds. Using some kind of art called "Gun-Kata" (no doubt made up by whoever made the flick) but I sincerely think it was quite an awesome scene, and the one after it where he takes on like 6 samurai-like guys and some chief and slices his face clean off. Like I said, its really cool, I definitely wanna watch it again, anyone heard of it?

Yeah, Gun katta was apparently a whole new field of martial arts using guns that was made for the movie. Visit http://www.freewebs.com/equilibrium-movie/gunkata.htm for more info, including a wicked looking (although surprisingly matrix like) conceptual drawing of the effect they were after. From what I've seen, it looks a hell of a lot like the matrix. --- VH16

this film rocks, i have it on dvd, VERY underrated, it was limited on release because of middle eastern guys flying planes into tall buildings about 3 years ago to the day and such. The film is VERY heavy on censorship, about governments telling you what you can and cant do and can and cant feel . anyone who's read 1984 or Brave New World know what this is all about and the ideas arent that new. its a shame, this could have been a GREAT hit, but too many people used "the matrix" as a way to describe what is essentially a world apart. The fighting is martial arts...with guns, the tetragramaton clerics have no advanced powers, just very well trained.

What the heck is a "tetragrammaton" anyway? who came up with that name? did they make it up? I tried to look it up but (gee surprise!) no result

@FF Same here Ive never heard of that word

I remember a guy in a game called The Grammaton Cleric .... I finally get it now (even though its not the exact same word)

"I'm still an atheist, thank God."

the Tetragrammaton (Greek derived from Hebrew) is the name given to the four lettered "name" of God in ancient Hebrew, YHVH, spoken as "Yahweh" but erroneously known in the West as "Jehovah" While you see it around in various places, the true significance of the word and the letters Yod, He, Waw and He) that form it are hidden deep in Jewish mysticism and kabbalism (not the rubbish Madonna's into, but the real thing)

YHVH (corresponds to IAUE or "ee-yow-u-way" is only one of the names of God. it corresponds to Heavenly Father I suppose. Other names are Adonai (Lord) Elah or El, Elohim, El-Shaddai and many more. YHVH is the revealed name of God and actually means "I am who I am" or "I am who I will be"

I haven't seen Equilibrium, think i might give it a whirl now. If Will-burr says it's worth watching then it will be, he hasn't been wrong yet!

Seen the movie, it's good. The plot is kinda simple, but the fighting scenes are worth seeing.

Taw YHVH or Yaweh is the Lord God. God is a different word in hebrew.

I said there are different words, and I'm sure Lord God is Adonai. let's ask FD, he'll know.

anyone who's read 1984 or Brave New World know what this is all about and the ideas arent that new

You missed the most obvious influence! Fahrenheit 451 of course!
But yeah, it's pretty much an amalgam of various bits of dystopian literature and kung fu thrown in.
Personally I found the fight scenes a bit silly till the final fight. The way they kept trying to draw aim and simulatneously block the other guy from doing so was really cool.

On the Yahweh note, I've heard the translation of "I am who am" interpreted as, "I am your god, my name doesn't matter. Mind your buisness." Or is this just a Catholic spin on it? (I assist in 4th grade sunday school, where we learn about the ten comandments so this subject comes up). --- VH16
