Rome Total War demo is here!

This is where you can discuss your homework, family, just about anything, make strange sounds and otherwise discuss things which are really not related to the Lancer-series. Yes that means you can discuss other games.

Lucius Tarquinius Superbus, according to Livy, the last Rex of the Romans.

I had not noticed before but the installation of the co-consul Republic included a separate office for the rex sacrorum or the "king of the holy (things)."

The rex sacrorum was the high priest of the most important temple in Rome at that time, the temple to Jupiter. So they already had invented the concept of separation of church and state. This office of the high priest
was created to take over for the fact that the King of Rome was at one time both monarch and head prelate at the Jupiter temple.

Just a heads up: there is a simple mod for the demo available to let you play the battle as the romans. This is a much more fulfilling experiance IMO, as you command much more troops and actually have to manouvre them, its harder too.

Just put the files into wherever/activision/rometotalwar/data/packs, and click on the run.bat file once.

later the Emperors incorporated the title of Pontifex Maximus for themselves, as part of their offices of state. occasionally they carried out formal ceremonies but mostly it was just for political security. Even the Christian Emperors sometimes retained the title, Constantine mainly comes to mind. the separation of Church and State is a medieval idea in origin, Ed, as regards its impact upon us today, and is purely western. In the Eastern Roman Empire, the Byzantine Emperors although no longer styling themselves as Pontifex Maximus, retained a high degree of control over religious and theological matters, a concept that has become known in historical circles as caesaro-pontifical authority. meant that the Empeoror could tell the Patriarch what the Church should tell everyone to believe, from the pecedent laid down by Constantine at the Council of Nicaea. in the West we had the Pope, or the Bishop of Rome as the Eastern Church referred to him, and the various Kings etc of the post-Roman world. And you get that through us (via the Reformation)

Only wanted to point out that those interested in a res publica seemed to have seen a need for it as well. I.e., the co-consuls easily could have been co-chief priests as well.

I have been following this game for a while, and it looks pretty damn good. I'll see what the reviews say before buying it though.

And a question; is it like the other "Total War" game(s)? I haven't had the chance to play any of them.

Oh yeah, and one more question; how well does it run in 1280x960 at 85Hz with maximum detail?

quite surprisingly well! Although we're yet to see what its like with the maximum number of units on the map, but its supposed to run even better than MTW
