This bodes ill for the gaming industry...

This is where you can discuss your homework, family, just about anything, make strange sounds and otherwise discuss things which are really not related to the Lancer-series. Yes that means you can discuss other games.

This bodes ill for the gaming industry...

I remember hearing about a game called "Singles: Sex Up Your Life" recently, and that they were even developing an expansion pack. I ignored this in the hope that it was an individual incident, and was not a symptom of thr degradation that is slowly creeping into the industry. Yet, I happened upon this article, which seems to suggest that "adult" games are a growth area within the gaming industry. Well, we all knew that this was coming, but I had hoped that these sort of games would take a bit longer. Ah well, I'm sure that some of you would like games like that *glances at "T"* . Thoughts?

Oh, and check out this article about CGI "game girls" appearing in "Playboy" magazine. What can I say? *Shakes head in disgust* Well, at least it is better than degrading real women.

I do agree, adult games are becoming more prominant in today's society. Rockstar took a huge risk by deciding to make "Adult" games, and it payed off BIG time (GTA3, GTA:VC, Max Payne 1/2 etc).

porn = good
interactive porn = better

LOL,

That actually reminds me of the Dutch Gamespot website, which has a section called Babespot, where people can actually vote on the best looking gamebabe Take a look at the archive for all the 'babes' ever shown...

I personally don't mind if the gaming industry releases adult games or violent games and such, as long as it isn't sold to minors, which is the biggest problems I have with it right now. Let's face it... violence and sex sells, whether you like it or not. Why do you think games as Doom 3, the GTA Series, Half-Life, Singles: Flirt up your life and soon Playboy: The Mansion etc. sell so good hey? We can be ignorant and pretend those games aren't there or that it will pass over, but we all know that ain't the case as long as those are the biggest money makers in the gaming industry. Each game that comes out is just a little bit more violent and has a little bit more nudity than previous games and that trend will continue untill it reaches a point that people massively say "No more! This has gone too far now", but I don't really see that happen anytime soon as these evermore violent growing games get sold even better then before. Game developers will keep going one step further each time... exploring the bountries of being acceptable or over-the-edge.

Provided they don't end up in the hands of people it shouldn't then it shouldn't be a problem. Although with everything that is given age ratings, no doubt it will. I not sure if this is really a bad thing though. Rockstar and Take 2 Interactive have gone out of their way to target the older generation of gamer. As such, i am a huge fan of Rockstar and have enjoyed playing all their games and they were getting borderline with Max Payne 2. Provided we don't get games like "The Sims : Hornywood" where our beloved sims film on location of a blue movie and have staring roles, i think we will be fine.

This is really unfortunate. Everyone knows what will happen now-
Every time someone is killed, raped, etc, guess what they're gonna blame it on-
Video games.

Post Thu Aug 26, 2004 5:26 am

why not blame it on films? they have the same themes as the games in somecases, and are far more gory.

Post Thu Aug 26, 2004 5:32 am

they shouldn't blame it on anybody except the person involved...or at a squeeze, the parents of the person involved.

"adult games" have been around since the dawn of computer games, the only difference today is that the graphics have gotten better.

And all that hentai stuff like Princess Maker

SattS

SHUT UP already. Princess Maker 1 was NEVER TRANSLATED OR RELEASED outside Japan. Same with 3,4 and Dentsu.

Only PM2 was translated and it was NOT Hentai. The only way for it to be remotely CLOSE to Hentai is with a cheat and Hentai is SEXUAL ACTS not just a naked girl.

Good lord some people have no knowledge of games

I actually can't see any problem in having an in depth knowledge of pornography Any human male that says he doesn't like porn of any kind is either :

a) lieing
b) in denial
or
c) unable to find anything that he really likes yet.

Go on, deny it, the lot of ya

Post Thu Aug 26, 2004 7:54 am

Adult games have always been available - like those strip poker games and stuff of years yonder. Honestly, if people want porn, you can find more than enough sick and depraved sites out there without needing any id or anything else to view them.

More likely is that:
A) its more hardcore than those old strip poker games

Its got advertising

Lets face it, advertising makes the headlines, which makes the reaction these days.

ehhhmmmm Stu, have you actually considered an option D)??
namely that he speaks the goshdarned truth?? what I know for certain from Ben and myself, We don't like Porn, literally, we hates it.

That clear??

now the topic.
all business is interconnected, the first comments I heard about the sims in my time, was that they were "too decent" and you couldn't see "anything interesting", the adult entertainment industry will always mix with every known media type, simply because everywhere that the Bizz pops up, money can be made, think about it, in the 18th century, drawings of women in the nude were big bucks, nowadays they are literally yesterdays news, and barely worth a dime (or pence ) then, when photogrpahy was invented, women could be photographed, a big leap up, and worth loads again, and so on, the invention of motion picture, the TV, the VCR, the DVD, and much more important, the PC industry, everything that was invented, I think the adult entertainment industry had dibbs on it and were one of the first to actually use it to its full potential, and please don't say its not true, because it just is.

To say it in short: the human race is made up of a bunch of rancid perverts

Ah, the price of better graphics cards. True, we get the awesome universes of FL, but we also must deal with the "cruder" aspects of society and how they will use/abuse this. Somehow I don't think these games would have taken off on the old 16 color systems. --- VH16
