SP2, bad news for gamers

This is where you can discuss your homework, family, just about anything, make strange sounds and otherwise discuss things which are really not related to the Lancer-series. Yes that means you can discuss other games.

sp2 stand for sever pak 2 and all you would need to do is open a port
how would that cause a program not to work(?)

Oh my god, I won't be able to play Scrabble anymore!

Is it just me or did anyone else notice how SP2 is mostly problematic with other Microsoft products on the must now manually open port issue?

I wonder if that means that many MS products were just made to be too wide open to begin with?

AND if SP2 closes ports to be more secure, why would you want to reopen them?

SP2 can be disastrous, unless you make sure go in on Administrator mode. This is important.

Awww come on guys relax.
This is just a way the Microsoft can say "see we are security aware". With all the bad press about security and the latest wave of viruses they just released a big "shut it all down then users can open it and it won't be our fault" patch.

This will be a big win for the average user. It will automagicly protect them from their own stupidity. So some of you L33ts will have to alter your security settings to be able to play online. It's a small price to pay to reduce the impact caused by DDOS attacks that have plauged the internet for the last year and a half.

We now return you to your regularly scheduled forum.

so its like.. with MS, effort put into improving software is inversely proportional to improvement achieved.

not my problem i've maybe played one multiplayer game and quickly signed off if i had an ulimited connection maybe it would bother me but you get my point

Post Tue Aug 17, 2004 10:48 pm

is it worth getting service pak 2?

Post Wed Aug 18, 2004 2:21 am

I wouldn't. Personally, I've never had any security issues with XP SP1, but that's due to my paranoid security precautions I imagine... oh, and the fact that I have a 56k modem .

I'm not bothering with SP2 either.

That's at home, right Taw? I bet you're rolling SP2 out to every bleeping comp you're responsible for at work that has XP installed.
