Ok, new core system, will this work?

This is where you can discuss your homework, family, just about anything, make strange sounds and otherwise discuss things which are really not related to the Lancer-series. Yes that means you can discuss other games.

Ok, new core system, will this work?

I've got a server in my basement which was made of old scavenged parts, one of which was an AMD Athlon 700 Mhz. One of the fans on the heatsink has lost it's bearings, and since the machine no longer meets the minimum system requirements of Linux I feel the need to upgrade. So here's what I've spec.d out

ABit NF7-M and an AMD Athlon XP-M 2500+ 1.86 Ghz
For the RAM I've got four choices : Infineon, Kingston, Generic, or Corsair

edit: BAH! stupid enter button

This is for a linux file server, so it doesn't need another graphics card (one on the board). What do you guys think? Too much, too little?

Not to bad, but I would recommend the corsair memory above anything else.

Kingston is kinda cheap usally...

Abit is a very good choice, but Athlon XP-M is the mobile (laptop) version of the processor, you want a Athlon XP (Barton core) 2500+ @ 1.833 GHz.
generally, Corsair memory is medium to high quality, I recommend it highly.
You didn't say what the serevr is supposed to do... But generally you can't go wrong with taking 2x512MB RAM and using it in dual channel mode.

Careful what you wish... You just might get it.

Yeah, sorry the chip is the desktop model, the M just means that the multiplier isn't locked

As for what the server is going to do, it's basically going to be a Http/FTP server, and maybe a game server if I can find some standalone servers written for linux. Really not a professional level system, I figure a max of 10 people at a time (friends and family).
