Op-Center: Call To Treason

This is where you can discuss your homework, family, just about anything, make strange sounds and otherwise discuss things which are really not related to the Lancer-series. Yes that means you can discuss other games.

Op-Center: Call To Treason

I just finished Tom Clancy's Op-Center: Call To Treason. Its a great book to go along with the series. For those of you who have not heard of the plot in the book it goes as follows, as from the back cover of the book.

When a shortsighted congressional committee cuts Op-Centers budget, the first victim is General Mike Rodgers. But he may not be out of work for long. Dynamic Senator Donald Orr is amking a run for the president as the head of his own third party -- and he's in teh market for a strong military advisor. The only problem is that is beginning to look like Orr's presidential run has a body count. And Rodgers must decide whether to jump on the bandwagon or tear it down - along with the rest of the Op-Center team...

It takes a turn from the last couple books in the series and is focused on issues that are purely "domestic". Line of Control, Mission of Honor, and Sea of Fire, the last three books in the series, were all based on events mainly "outside" of the United States. I like the change in pace and a totally different plotline from the other books in the series. Feel free to chime in if you've read it or any other of Clancy's books, some hate his style of writing. But I for one love it.

For clarification, Call to Treason was written by Jeff Rovin and the series was created by Tom Clancy and Steve Pieczenik.

he's in teh market

Wow, Clancy must use a better spellchecker if he wants me to read it !

Honestly, I don't really like the Op-Center series, nor the Net Force ones. I prefer the John Ryan novels, as they seem to have a better leadup to the climax. Rainbow 6 had several good "mini" climaxes, before coming up to the real conclusion. Jack Ryan novels don't have as many climaxes, but always manage to slip at least three major ones by you usually. Op-Center usually has one major, and one minor one, which I don't really think is my preferance.

But maybe I'll pick it up some time and have a read. You never know, you can be suprised ......

I agree with you statement about the climax's but if you look at the length of the books it really does make some since. Call to Treason is almost right at 400 pages while some of the books in the ryan series are much longer books. (Executive Orders is 1358 pages) Rainbow 6 is also much longer at 897 pages. So you really do get the same amount of excitement if you think that you can read three of the op-center books in the time it would take you to read on of the ryan novels. I find the time to read all of them though, I have every clancy book except for some of his non-fiction ones.

What do you think of The Teeth of the Tiger Neo, I think Clancy's next many books will be based alot on this one. Jack Ryan Jr. is grown up and it deals with him working for "The Campus". I thought it was a bloody good read. (Wow I've been around you Brits to much)

Hmm I wonder if we have that book, we have so much of his stuff, I also prefer the Jack Ryan stuff, got The Cardinal of the Kremlin the other day, as well as red storm rising.

Raindow six was an excellent book.
Teeth of the tiger, it was an ok book, it's where they get to use the pen with the poison in rite?

Have you read Red Rabbit?
I wasn't very impressed with it, he's written better ones.

What did you not like about Red Rabbit? I thought the idea of getting the russian defector out along with his family was a great concept for the book. It also showcased both the Foleys and some of Jack Ryan in their much younger days.

What do you guys think of Clear and Present Danger, I think its one of Clancy's best. Its also a Jack Ryan Novel since that seems to be your guy's cup of tea. If I remember right its one of the shorter Ryan novels at just under 700 pages or something like that.

I think I just didnt like the way of writing or sth, I read it a couple of months ago, so I cant really remember.
What happens in Clear and present danger, can't remember if I read it b4

Its about the US's covert war on drugs in Columbia and a team of army people are sent down to scout out the airfields where the planes are lifting off from, and the a US fighterplane shoots them down over the ocean. In the process the team gets cut off from all aid and Jack Ryan finds out what is happening and goes down to Columbia to get them out. Its also the book where James Greer dies.

dreadful books loaded with excessive pseudo-tech military detail to appeal to wannabes. I'd ban them for their appalling lack of quality and simplistic political stances. Airport trash, a total waste of good paper.

<oops> sorry, I meant to say, yes they're fine exciting books and a positive contribution to the english language and literature in general.

isn't Taw nasty? he's a dreadful fellow, good job he's going away for a while, now that nice Arcon lad can come back and show horrible Taw how it's done...

No you got the thoughts wrong it is more like
"He thinks way to much of himself, as if is thoughts and choice in literature is the only important thin in life. If he just knew..."

or sth like that in anyway

Those books are for pure relaxation and enjoiment Taw, they're not suppose to make you think

I could explain it to you Taw, but I doubt if you would understand

You may not like them Taw, but maybe when Little Monkey gets back we can swing him in our direction.

In all seriousness though, I do not read those books to think of them as "literature". I also read them for pure enjoyment, it is a very good way to relax and just forget about life.
